UF or Northeastern

For chem E? If price is not in the equation, which school has a better program? Should I go with the smaller school? I do want to go to grad school. How likely are the internships at UF?

Price should definitely be on the equation since there is 34k difference for in-state and 15k difference for out of state per year. I think for chemical engineering University of Florida is better. Are you in state for Florida ?

Yes I have full tuition to both, only have to pay r & b. I am a huge gator fan, but I want to make my decision based on the program.

If there is no difference in cost I would go for NEU. You do know that it is co-op based program though?

I do, but I am not entirely sure what that entails. Are the co-op’s unpaid? Do many graduates get hired by the co-op companies? It’s it always a 5 year program?

During a coop, you do not take classes, but work and get paid for it. The offshoot is that you graduate in 5 years instead of 4. BUT–you earn money during coop, as I mentioned, and you get lots of work experience and connections. The number of coops varies by major.

Very helpful info, thanks. I am planning a visit in a few weeks.

They are two very different schools, in two very different locations. Do you have a preference for the weather at one or the other? I don’t think there is a bad choice either way. If you decide on UF be sure to get a summer internship. My H is an EE and worked is way through school so could not consider interning. It hurt him in the job search when he graduated, so he joined the AF and was commissioned in the AF. Best choice ever, he will retire in 2014!

I think they have or are planning options where you do fewer co-ops and graduate in 4 years rather than 5.

FWIW…UF is ranked ~25th for ChemE while Northeastern is ~75th. ChemE’s are highly recruited at UF and job ops/internships/grad school won’t be an issue if you do well.
