UF or UW-madison Major/ biochemistry

UW-Madison seems much better in biochemistry than UF. If I go to UF, I only pay in-state tuition which is 2.2K / per year in total. But I have to pay 4.8K / per year to UW-Madison. I am interested in applying medical school or PAs program after undergraduate. Which school should I go?

Did you mean $22,000 per year at UF and $48,000 a year at UW-Madison (full cost of attendance)? I don’t see how you’ve gotten UW-Madison’s out of state tuition down to $4.8K ($4,800) a year.

If it is $2,200 a year vs $4,800 a year, then choose either one. However, if it’s $22,000 a year vs $48,000 a year, it’s going to be hard to justify UW over UF for pre-med/biochemistry. UF is also fairly strong in biochemistry/life sciences, and generates about twice the number of medical school applicants as UW-Madison.

Both schools will get you where you want to go, but you need to think twice before spending $100,000 more for UW, before you even start medical school.

I too am not sure what your 2.2k v 4.8k means, but med students tend to borrow their way through school and it is very expensive. You want to try to graduate from college with as little, if any, debt as possible as a med student.

Both programs will offer you the academics and resources to be a competitive med school applicant. Whether you become such an applicant will be more so on you, not the school.

Consider the nebulous concept of fit. Happy students tend to do better GPA wise which is important for med school. Where do you think you’ll fit in? Why? Have you ever lived in brutally cold winters? (I don’t need answers, just things you may want to consider)

That is my mistake. You are right.$22,000 for UF and $48,000 for UW-Madison per year. BUT DON’T you think overall ,UW-Madison is much better than UF ?

I am a proud Badger alumna and also in the life sciences, but at this cost differential, I would encourage you to go to UF unless money is not a factor. If you want to go to med or PA school, you should save as a much as you can by minimizing the cost of your undergraduate education.

@Teresa0309 - They are actually very comparable institutions. Here the stats for the two schools. Can you tell which is which?
