UF Transfer Accepted/ Rejected/ Waiting for Spring 2011

I know its kind of early to start this thread, but i just want to see who else has applied and is hoping to get in, I know I'm not the only one waiting.........

-Electrical Engineering major
-CC transfer for spring 2011
-Overall 3.4 GPA
-Pre-professional 3.24 GPA

Do I have a fighting chance??

I am glad you started it! I love this website. I stalked it when I was waiting to find out if I got into UF, I stalked it when I was waiting for my husband to get accepted to UF, and now I am stalking it while waiting to find out of my friend will get in!

Just to give people some ideas - I got in as a transfer spring 2008 (graduated with my BA in Communication Disorders semi recently and starting back at UF this fall for round two!) - Communication Disorders recently switched to PHHP but when I got in it was CLAS - I had a 3.7 and came from a CC in Orlando.

Spring is notoriously easier to get into because you aren’t competing with a ton of freshmen.

My husband recently got accepted to start Mechanical Engineering this fall. He went to Santa Fe (the CC here in Gville) - and has a 3.6. When he sent in his application he only had 2 pre-reqs complete but was in the process of taking 3 more pre-reqs during the spring. He got denied, a week later he finished spring semester, had A’s in all 3 pre-reqs, asked for them to look at his transcripts again - and he got accepted. So if you are in a similar situation with pre-reqs - it is worth a shot to talk to someone!

My friend has applied to CALS for communication and leadership and I am really anxious! Cannot wait for everyone to find out about Spring!

Thanks for the input! I wish him the best of luck in the eng program it’s the best in Florida…. Thanks for the transcript advice also… I’ll definitely keep that in mind when I finish my summer class this semester

@twodollarbills,

What is your friend overall gpa and preprof gpa for communication and leadership? If you don’t mind me asking.

I am not positive actually, but I know it is pretty low. He has been out of school for 5 years though, so I know they take that into consideration. He talked with someone in the department and he mentioned that he knows that a lot of colleges say things like “2.5 gpa required” but if you have anything below a 3.5 you don’t stand a chance, so he asked about their requirements, and they basically told him that it isn’t like that with their program because something about it being a large program yet it doesn’t get an insane amount of applicants. Therefore, they are pretty true to the statement about what is needed for entry, and if you meet the stated requirements you actually stand a good chance. I might have misquoted a little, but that was the gist of what they told him.

Hmm… Interesting. I wonder if the applicant pool for the college of engineering has a lower average GPA because its engineering, so something like a 3.4 might actually stand a chance when comparing to other majors/colleges…taking a guess maybe your husband might know a little about that since he went into mechanical, I have a feeling he felt somewhat confident with his 3.6

I am going to apply to the CLAS for psychology for Spring 2011.
I applied for the fall just to see if I could get in and finish in the summer, but I got denied with a 3.42.

When I apply for the spring I will have a GPA of 3.61 and a pre prof of either a 3.2 or a 3.4 depending on my math grade for this summer which wont be complete until Aug 25th and I will have all my pre reqs completed and just 3 classes left all electives!

I’m also awaiting a decision for the spring 2011 term. I’m anxious to find out if i will get accepted into the CALS Biology Preprofessional program. I will finish my pre-req by this fall at my CC. I have a 3.9 gpa. Does anyone have an idea by when uf will send out the letters?

When I applied for the fall they did not send out the letters until around a month after the last day to apply for that term…could be different.

Yeah I’ve been reading lots of comments from the thread for UF for applicants for spring 2010 and the majority of them didn’t even hear back until mid October. At least 3 months to go……

Really!!! Thought it would have been a little sooner. Thanks Lvan0999 and thegarciab0y

I know it really stinks! Thats why im waiting to apply closer to the date because I cant wait like that! haha. It will drive me crazy!

Yeah i wasn’t completely sure how their admissions policy worked before i applied so i went ahead and did it just to be safe. Finds out, they don’t have rolling admissions so i guess I’m in for a long wait haha

MrProton what is your major?

My major is biology

oh you already said that sorry…haha.

Ive heard that the CALS is WAY easier to get into that bio would be for CLAS

Accounting transferring from CC with AA in Business administration. Graduating with Honors in Honors. Phi theta Kappa member 3.65 GPA/4.0 pre reqs. Still have one more semester to boost GPA.

I’ve already applied and I’m waiting to hear back for transfering there Spring 2011. I’ve applied to the Liberal Arts and Science college and my major is Psychology. My current GPA is 3.75 and I have lots of community service. Do you think I have a good chance getting in? I applied over 4 weeks ago and my status says it’s in the final decision. How much longer?

Paigator I have been reading the Transfer Spring 2010 thread and pretty much nobody got answers until after the deadline for the college you are applying for. Check the admission page on the website to get your deadline date, and you most likely won’t be hearing back until after then.
