UF Transfers with AA and HS diploma

My DS18 is awaiting decision for admittance as a junior, graduating HS in 2 months with his AA from a FL high school. Would love to hear from student (s) or parents with students currently, or in the past, who were admitted this way. A lot of leery opinions regarding how one will fare with only 2 years of college experience such as “will miss out on the full 4 years of college”, etc. DS18 does plan to go on to graduate school. I realize I am opening myself up for negative comments so fire away if you must. But I am really only looking for those who have experienced it, not necessarily opinions about entering this way. Thanks!

Hey!
I actually did the route of obtaining my AA along with my high school diploma. I’m actually going to graduate with my AA in May and also my HS diploma in June. Monday I found out I got accepted into UF as a transfer. My major is Biology.

I think the route I took was a very wise decision but it’s not for everyone. However, since I do plan on furthering my education after my bachelors, I love how I “saved” two years of my long journey by doing it in high school.

I don’t feel like i missed out on a 4 years college experience because even though i did two years in high school it was still college. I was very active in my college and it was a great experience for me

I’m also graduating high school with my HS diploma and AA degree in May, but for me, it was about Finacial aid. Most scholarships and financial aid programs will only pay up to 120 credit hours and the Dual Enrollment and AP credits are not counted as part of that 120. It was the perfect opportunity to double major and earn 2 bachelor degrees at once, so I may still be at the university for 4 years.

I decided to apply to UF choosing dual languages as my major because I couldn’t decide wheater to take computer science through either the College of Engineering or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, however, I did email admissions at UF last week and they said that CLAS is usually lenient on prerequisites for first time HS/AA students and focus mostly on your college GPA and as long as it’s above a 3.0 there shouldn’t be any issues. My college GPA is around a 3.7 so I’m cautiously optimistic. They also told me that I can add the 2nd major of computer science as soon as I meet with an advisor.

Both USF and UF were the only 2 Universities in the state that offered both of my programs of study as major’s but UF’s study abroad program is 10 x’s better than USF’s and by the time I did the research and realized this, I missed the early application deadline for UF but I’m still grateful they are considering it… I’ve already been accepted with scholarships to USF so if worse comes to worse my life is not over, but UF is still my first choice

I am also a High school student graduating in May with my HS diploma and AA degree, but for me, it was about financial aid. Most scholarships and financial aid programs only pay up to 120 credit hours, however, Dual Enrollment and AP credits are not counted as part of that 120. So I looked at it as the perfect opportunity to Double major and earn 2 Bachelors degrees at the same time so I may still be attending the University for 4 years.

I chose Dual Languages as my primary major because I couldn’t decide on whether to take Computer Science, through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or through the College of Engineering. I emailed UF’s Admissions last week and they said that CLAS is lenient on the pre-requisite requirements for first-time students with HS/AA and focus mostly on your College GPA and that as long as it is above a 3.0 there shouldn’t be any issues. They also said that I can add the second major of Computer Science after speaking with an advisor. My college GPA is around a 3.7 so I am cautiously optimistic.

The University of Florida and the University of South Florida were the only two Universities in the State that had both of my programs as a major. It’s just that UF’s study abroad program is 10 x’s better than USF’s and by the time I did the research and realized this I ended up applying late. But I am grateful that they are taking my application into consideration. I have already been accepted to USF with scholarships so if worse comes to worse my life is not over, but UF is still my 1rst choice.

Just wondering and I’ll probably call tomorrow and confirm, we don’t pay a deposit? If I am understanding, since entering with an AA and HS diploma, they are “transfers” and pay no enrollment deposit.

Right, HS/AA students admitted as freshman have to pay the deposit and confirm, students admitted as transfer do not.
