UF, UCF and USF OOS NMF travel and medical insurance costs.

Hello,
Anyone with OOS NMF attending UF, UCF and USF schools share their actual cost breakdown and scholarship they receive for their respective schools?

We are in Dallas, TX and considering FL schools but are concerned about if scholarship will cover travel and health insurance costs.

Thanks in advance.

This was the cost breakdown for OOS students we received when we went to the Director’s forum in Nov.

2019-2020 COA (One semester)

Total Cost $11067
Tuition/fees $2977
Room and board $5005
Books $600
Transportation $933
Personal expenses $1552

Scholarship amount (One semester)
Total scholarship $11067

  • NMSC award $250
    = Benacquisto scholarship $10817

The only difference between this and IS students is that IS scholarship total was less given the assumption that IS students would qualify for Bright Futures which covers some of that total scholarship amount. The current NMF students said there was enough money given that if you budgeted well, the scholarship would cover the extra $ needed for summer housing mandated by the Towers if you chose to go that route since that’s one of the most expensive housing options on campus.

Thanks for your reply on my question about housing.

@PPuggle thank you so much for posting your answer … great information!

If student is in the Towers, they are not required to get a meal plan, right?

Meal plan not required. The kids we toured with had a plan freshman year but not after that. Idt DD would have a plan. She’s pretty used to fending for herself since I work weird hours.

@drxxpresso that is good news … my D is vegetarian and has cooked for herself (really interesting stuff) for past several years … cooking is one of her stress-relievers and an artistic outlet as well!
She, unlike me, LOVES grocery shopping as well.

I wonder if scholarship provided is enough to cover flight / travel cost (at least 4 visits a year at minimum) as well as any insurance premium / cost.

Also would parents insurance cover OOS students in Florida?

Anyone with information, please share.

Our DD is on our insurance and so far we haven’t had any problems. Our first year we broke even with covering for summer costs but this year Our DD had about $3000 left over for the semester. She is in an off campus apt. You can get fares for under $200 if you plan far enough ahead.

Our medical insurance covers our son in Florida. You typically have to show the school proof of insurance so they do not charge you for their own plan. Check your out of network charges as you will get hit up for that if your child has to see a medical provider while at school.
