I'm a high school senior who's thinking about majoring in econ next fall. If I do go on to law school and successfully get a J.D. degree, what career opportunities are there for a person with such an educational background?

Uh, be a lawyer?

Seriously, once you have your JD, you will probably become a lawyer. With only a few exceptions (i.e. perhaps patent law), it doesn't really matter what your undergrad background is at that point.

It is true that some people who get their JD's take jobs in high finance. That's what Robert Rubin did, enjoying a meteoric career at Goldman Sachs after Yale Law, and then being appointed Secretary of the Treasury. However, it should be noted that he did work as a lawyer for a few years before jumping ship.
