I am in the process of applying to Columbia undergraduate, and I am applying to the Fu Foundation school of Engineering. I am interested in Electrical Engineering, but also am interested in Financial Engineering. I wrote killer essays about electrical (as my EC's all reflect that) but didn't have anything to say about financial. So I indicated Major choice 1 as Electrical Engineering.

Anyhow, my question is: how hard is it to change to financial if I were to get in and attend? Is Major choice 1 binding in any way?

No it’s not. Writing essays about electrical is also fine. Administrators and admissions officers understand that plans change often. However a few things to note:
If you are in the engineering school and wish to major in something from Columbia College, you have to reapply as an internal transfer which is getting easier as SEAS has become significantly more selective.

Within the engineering school you have a year or so to do decide what you major in; I am still deciding what to study.

Thanks @moliss I really appreciate the info. I’ll keep choice 1 as electrical, but will investigate other options would I have the privilege of going there.
