Hey guys. I applied to UGA in the Spring and got denied, and decided to go to GSU. Long story short, I'm not really enjoying myself here and would like to transfer to UGA Fall 2014 if at all possible. I wanted to ask anyone currently going through or that has already been through UGA's school of computer science what they thought of their experience, the professors, how well it prepared you, etc. After doing some research I learned that the CS program at UGA was only given ABET accreditation last October, so I'd like to know how the program stacks up to a school like Georgia Southern. Thanks.

Transferring from GSU is very popular. GSU is the 4th biggest feeder school for transfers to UGA.

Although UGA’s computer science program will be a considerable step up from Georgia State(not to say their program isn’t good or anything), you may want to look at Georgia Tech.

Georgia Southern’s programs do not compete with UGA’s whatsoever.

I transferred from Georgia State’s program, so here’s what I can say. Georgia State’s CS program, in my opinion, is better. It is deeply rooted in math and physics, and is, after speaking with some of my friends, similar to Georgia Tech’s program as far as curriculum is concerned. UGA’s program is very heavy in liberal arts, which personally I don’t think gives me any advantage in the industry. UGA, is, however, a more prestigious name, and offers more as far as campus life and student involvement.

When it comes down to it, a CS degree from any of Georgia’s 3 research institutions is a well respected degree.
