Ugliest Campuses and Prettiest Campuses

Pepperdine is absolutely gorgeous.

I really think Miami University (Ohio) is very pretty.

I just saw a movie over at the Trinity campus in Hartford, and it was an eerie kind of beautiful (probably would have been less eerie if there had been people there) and I loved it. Brown is pretty nice too, the streets around it have a really nice feel to them. Ugliest? Any art school in a city. This probably won't apply to most people, but seriously, I went to two of the least attractive schools, SVA, and MassArt. Ok, granted, neither really had what you could call a "campus" so to speak, and the buildings have to be kind of crappy so kids can build installations into the walls and everything, but still. You'd think art students would appreciate architectural aesthetics better than anyone, you know?

LOL.... at least you weren't a structural engineering major! When you 'live' in a building that has to house 40-ton capacity cranes and a strong wall that's used to crush full-scale concrete columns, your building's gonna be built like a nuclear bunker. Not terribly inspiring for someone who wants to build skyscrapers and museums for a living!

Rice has a beautiful campus. Especially when its contrasted to Houston!

you think cal tech is one of the most beautiful?! blah.

UCLA and UC Berkeley were quite nice. Santa Barbara was ugly campus buidling wise but incredible location wise. I also liked Santa Cruz, it was quite unique.

In the midst of all of these judgments, one must always remember the dictum: a hippopotamus is beautiful to another hippopotamus.

pretty: u of washington, stanford, ucsc (if you like outdoorsy...), santa clara, u of puget sound

average: uc davis

ugly: seattle u, sjsu

Yes, I love the Bowdoin campus.

And personally, I think Brandeis is fairly hideous. Good school though...

NYU doesn't have an ugly campus. There is no campus. It's the city--completely. And if culture, history, and the urban rush fascinates you, then I think it's one of the most beautiful. Also, this post is overrated. I went to one of these most beautiful campuses and was still not happy. I think beauty and campus should not be a siginificant part of the decision making process. out.

What about Kenyon??

I think Cambridge University is the Absolute best.

http://images.google.com/images?q=cambridge%20university&hl=en&hs=5G7&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official_s&sa=N&tab=wi

I mean can it get any better

Brigham Young is beautiful with the mountains all around :) Also, I think Indiana University has a fairly pretty campus. And I think UChicago is pretty ugly, but it has a few interesting buildings.

University of the South :Sewanee.

we own our own mountain and it is beautiful. also very gothic/secluded-quiet/ and hogwarts-esque.

Best: Trinity (CT), Smith, UConn (really!), Yale, Holy Cross, Gettysburg.

Average: Eastern Connecticut State (actually very pretty in its own way), Southampton (defunct now), Middlebury, UVM, St. Joseph (CT) (also really pretty).

Worst: Wheaton (MA), Southern Connecticut State (I'm very amused someone else listed it), UMass, Hampshire, SCAD (what campus?), Western Connecticut State, Central Connecticut State, University of Hartford (maybe more average, actually), Drexel.

ETA: Forgot Quinnipiac. Very pretty campus in a beautiful setting.

uc santa cruz and scripps college are really pretty

I'm surprised how often Wake gets mentioned as being one of the prettiest. I mean, I love it there, but the campus hasn't ever been something that I really liked about it. Personally, and I'm sure that I'm committing some atrocity by saying this, I really like the UNC campus much better.

But the prettiest that I've seen is all the Claremont Colleges, Scripps in particular.

As for the ugliest, NC State leaves something to be desired (i.e. grass, trees, sunlight, anything but red brick).

kenyon's pretty. at least that is true

I will agree that I think that Rice has a beautiful campus. I love all the trees and all the green (I am from Arizona, so I am awed by any grass). Arizona State is horribly ugly. University of Arizona is also alright, but it is not that nice. The lawn's grass is usually yellow (grass doesn't grow well in Tucson). Pepperdine has a really nice campus. Very church-like looking though (I know that it is a private religious school).

ginny...having heard of the rivalry between a lot of the ACC schools...(especially the NC ones) you might want to go ahead and just keep that detail to yourself while amongst your classmates. haha
