Uh oh..

Well I had been planning to do a monologue for my unified auditions from the musical A.. my name is still alice, the sequel to a my name is alice.. but I then saw that carnegie mellon has the original one on their do not use list.. even though I'm using the sequel version, should I rethink my choice? Or maybe just for carnegie mellon? Thanks so much!

Sorry, I know these questions are annoying, but I would really appreciate if someone would give me some feedback, I'd hate to not be considered for a bad choice for a monologue! Or do you think it would be helpful to call CMU and ask? Thank you so much!

I would think it's wise to avoid a monologue on any college list you see at all your auditions. It usually means it's overdone, and therefore not welcome. Good luck!

Yes, I completely agree with you! But its technically not the play but the sequel, so I was just wondering if I could get away with it? I'd hate to have to learn another monologue the week before, I already have it all prepared!

kitkatt:

I think you'll be fine doing the sequel. They just don't want to hear the "jock strap" monologue. Better to do what you've worked on. Just remember to breathe!

is it the bridal registry one?

Yes it is? I had not realized it was overdone, should I avoid it?

I dont think it is, I'm doing it too. But I have 3 others to fall back on if I find out there's someone else doing it

Hm.. well I was planning on using it at the Chicago Unifieds.. But I may rethink that now!

If it helps I haven't met any one else using it.

That does help, and I really do like this monologue. I really wanted to use it for Carnegie to because I thought it was a nice contrast to my classical piece.. but the sequel of something off the do not use list seems a little risky :/. Maybe I'll just use it for my other schools though.

Carnegie has a do not do list?!

Its a very short one comprised of only monologues, but they do have one! I didn't realize it either, I'm glad I checked!
