Uhm, ucr, ucm

I'm debating over University of Hawaii Manoa, UC Riverside and UC Merced right now. Can anyone offer any opinions and positives and negatives about these schools? I want to go to a school that will give me the best chance of getting into med school, which includes volunteer opportunities and other extracurriculars that will help in my application. I heard UH Manoa has a premed association. Any insight and info would be great. THANKS!

uc merced is still new and its surrounding area might not be large enough for clinical experience.

UCR is actually decent in its science program. It’s located in a populated area with multiple large hospitals in the area. The medical school will open in 2012 or 2013 and it also has a program with ucla medical school. (Look up Thomas Haider Medical Program)

Not sure about UHM, I’m sure there will be decent hospital around, but still, I can’t see myself on an island for four whole years.

I think you’d be disappointed at Manoa. My son’s best friend went there (graduated this year) and he desperately wanted to transfer back to California, but couldn’t (not all of his classes transferred, or something.) The Hawaii state government doesn’t support UH very well. Riverside would seem to be a great opportunity for you. It’s seriously underrated by a lot of folks.

thanks for the insight  what did your son’s best friend major in? i heard that the different majors had drastic effects on what the students opinions where in UHM. from what ive heard of premed its good. and yeah riverside seems good but i want to be able to have fun and do work when i want to and riverside seems kinda ehh even though its close to la.

UCR has a good pre med program.UCR is Super underrated if you ask me. Riverside is ok it ain’t bad but could be better. LA and San Diego are close though for weekends and their is the Cochella valley music festival evry year nearby
