Uic or uiuc for English?

Hi everyone. I am a transfer student looking for a college to attend in Fall 2017 to complete my Bachelor’s in English. I heard UIUC has a good writing program, but I was wondering if anyone knows of UIC’s or received a degree from their LAS program? I like UIUC and the fact that it is a considered to be a high caliber state school, but the traditional college experience isn’t that important to me and I don’t like the idea of being amongst cornfields for the next two years. I rather be in the city, since I find there to be generally more resources, internships, people to meet, and places to explore. I heard UIC has a good program but am wondering if anyone has had firsthand experience. Thanks!

I would avoid UIC. They have significant budget issues and job placement can be problematic. UIUC is a much stronger choice.

UIC and UIUC are funded together. The University of Illinois divides the money among the campuses. This is a complicated, political process. If one has financial problems, so does the other. It’s UIC, not UIUC which has an unique funding stream from the state for its healthcare programs. With the exception of that, the University of Illinois is funded as an unit (Chicago, Springfield, Urbana-Champaign). Everything I have received from them about money is from the University of Illinois perspective not the individual campuses.

UIC does not have any significant job placement issues. Your ability to get a job after graduation will depend on your major and your own networking ability. A degree in English is inherently a low demand major.
