Uiuc business honors vs michigan ross preferred admit?

I am going to study business in college; I don't know for sure if I want to do accounting or fiancé or both. Accounting is easier to get a job right out of college in and can lead itself in to many fields, but I might ultimately want a more finance centered job.

If I were accepted into the UIUC college of business honors program and I was a preferred admit to ross for michigan, which one would should I go to? They are similar in terms of size and environment obviously, and let's assume the costs are mostly equal because I haven't gotten the financial aid/scholarship package from either one

Thanks

Bumppppppp

Ross>UIUC

UMichigan.

Thanks

Which one is OOS though?
Because even Ross isn’t worth getting into debt - and either one is basically 50k OOS per year (while you, personally, are only allowed to borrow $5,500 your freshman year). So if yo don’t have the money in a bank account somewhere your choices shrink.

I live in Illinois

People are going to recommend Michigan solely because Ross is perceived as the better business school. I personally don’t think that’s the only reason to choose a school.

You say that you assume the costs will be about the same - but if you’re an IL state resident, I’m not sure that’s a sound assumption. Unless you get some significant merit aid from Michigan, UIUC is likely to be cheaper. Michigan’s BBA program for non-residents is estimated to be $59,000 per year. UIUC, on the other hand, is $35,000 per year - and being in the honors program you would have a merit scholarship (it’s not really clear how much it is, though).

Also, reviewing the two - I’m looked up UIUC’s business honors program, and it’s a small-cohort business program that exposes business majors to special programs designed to help their placement, like networking with business leaders (one year they met Warren Buffett), international travel experiences, and special conferences. Michigan’s preferred admit program is a guarantee that you’ll be admitted to Ross if you meet certain requirements during your freshman year. You have to maintain a 3.3 in your freshman semester (which isn’t terribly hard) and attend some special seminars for preferred admit students.

UIUC and Michigan are both great universities; while Ross’s MBA programs have a perceived better overall reputation, UIUC’s business school is also well-reputed and I think your job prospects are great coming from both. Personally I’d make this decision mostly on cost concerns but partially on other factors that you may be interested in - like special minors, social activities, location, etc.
