Guys I got accepted into Purdue first year engineering, but I got deferred and now waitlisted from UIUC computer engineering. How should I be feeling. UIUC was my top choice, and now I have to wait all the way till may. Is purdue good enough? It has a really high acceptance rate, and I know it has a low graduation rate, but stilll… What do I do? What are my chances of getting out of the waitlist for Computer Engineering??

Essays are pretty nice
ALSO… I am pretty annoyed because I did phenomenal my senior year raising my weighted GPA to a 4.04. I aced AP Physics, Multivariable Calculus, AP computer Science… And yet UIUC does not take senior year grades… EVEN if you are on the waitlist. Do you guys think I should talk to them about my senior year or something?
Your stats are pretty good for computer engineering. Do you have EC’s that relate to computer engineering? You can have great EC’s but if they don’t relate to your major it’s pretty much meaningless in U of I’s application process (It Suck I know). May I also ask what your ethnicity is. You are a shoe-in if you are an URM but if you are Asian or White you may be passed up on the waitlist in the name of diversity.

Yeah I just got back from an admitted student day at UIUC and there were people in my college group (LAS) that say that LAS was their backup because they were rejected from COE even with ACT’s of 36 and perfect unweighted GPA’s. I guess their looking to mix this year’s engineering class with people of all races. Even with this effort there is a serious overpopulation of Asians in the COE.
I would have join PREP, not LAS as in order to get into Engineering College Either a. you are directly accepted to eng college. b. accepted in PREP and transfer into Eng College and do ICT transfer by Freshman spring time. c. Do DGS/LAS and then do PREP and then Eng. d. Transfer from other university.
Bottomline, in order to be UIUC eng, you have be accepted directly or in PREP. DGS and LAS had another hurdle to get into PREP before Eng college
