So I applied to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne recently, and I just want some feeback for my chance of admission. I want to major in Computer Science, and for some reason CS is located in UIUC's college of engineering, which is somewhat difficult to get into. If there are any other reccomendations you can think of, please let me know. Thanks!

Your ACT is 8 points below the 25th percentile for the College of Engineering and your class rank is a bit below the 25th percentile for that school. I’d say your chances are slim.

One option might be an Illinois community college. All the Illinois CCs have articulation agreements with UIUC engineering. That means that if you take the right courses (and pass them), the credits are guaranteed to transfer to UIUC. You still have to be admitted to UIUC engineering as a transfer student, of course, which will require an exemplary record at the CC. You’d also save a ton of money that way.

Thank you so much for the advice. I think it’s ridiculous that one test pretty much dictates where you go or can go for that matter, which may or may not diminish job opprotunities based on the prestiege factor of the college as well as your overall academic performance too, over other colleges. Even if I got a 30 I’d have a better chance, but I’m just awful at standardized testing. But other than that, thank you.
