UIUC -> Harvard?

Hey guys - repost from the wrong forum (although I did get a helpful reply in there).

I've got a question that's been bugging me for a while; University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Engineering - how does that fare in applying to top top business schools (Harvard-esque)?

Here's my understanding: it's no Ivy League undergrad, but it won't be a large hindrance if stats are in order (GPA and GMAT). As long as it won't lock me out (realistically, I understand that technically very little should lock you out), I'm fine with it.

Also, on a related note, how is grade inflation/deflation at UIUC Engineering? (I'll be making a new topic with this, but if anyone knows here, that would be superb)

IMO, HBS is the scum of business school education, along with Wharton. Their graduates are responsible for nearly all major ethics disaster.

Your presumption is correct, as long as your GMAT is way up there (730ish) you’ve got a good shot. Almost all engineering programs also get a bump for having low grade curves. (they won’t know the difference between one engineering program’s grade curve and another, though).

Can’t stress enough the importance of work experience. Get a good job doing something interesting, preferably entrepreneurial. A run-of-the-mill switchboard engineering job will get you the ding right away for being too 1950s.
