I am clearly no match for you Helicased. You have superior reasoning skills and probably make more money than me. I’ll bet you’re even better looking than I am.

US News & World Report (9/11) National University Rankings:

You go to NIU so, I am very confused why you are so interested in this discussion. ■■■■■? Maybe someone from UIC spit on you lol.
Have you ever read any books about education? Does that ranking have anything to do with how much these graduates are making out of school? Probably not, check this one out before you spew ignorance on the web… [Amazon.com: Inside American Education (9780029303306): Thomas Sowell: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Inside-American-Education-Thomas-Sowell/dp/0029303303)
There is a chapter on how US News & World Report bases their ranks based on NON academic criteria. That makes you’re previous point, Invalid.

@Radiums: You only took freshman year at UIC? You ALWAYS feel unprepared for the next classes that is that nature of any technical major, so don’t go blaming UIC for that. Commuting is not a bad thing. It is quiet intelligent when you are trying to not have HUGE student loan bills when you graduate. I stayed in the dorms / apartments. This was unwise because of all the money I later had to pay.

Since the OP has deserted I’ll just answer the stated question.

Depends on the major and whether you want a traditional/classical environment vs. urban enviroment. All my friends who wanted to attend medical school from UIUC got into med school, granted they were top candidates. Some currently attend UIC’s med program. As for UIC overall - it’s a mix bag. All my friends that attend UIC either in hard sciences or are in the pre-med track. It stands that UIUC is the premier public university for the state and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, but UIC is steadily improving in their strongest disciplines. For example, if I wanted to attend grad school for urban planning no doubt I would look at UIC before UIUC. It’s location is a given, but the program is actually solid - it doesn’t rely on its name brand.

Helicase - you’re embarrassing yourself and other UIC graduates. Seriously.

Ok I go to UIUC and i’m literally lol’ing at the UIC people saying its just as difficult/just as good. I was top of my high school and chose UIUC over northwestern because I thought it would be easier. Wrong. Struggled hardcore as a science major at UIUC. So I took a semester off and went to UIC. Went from being a straight B student to getting straight A’s in what would have been my most difficult semester at U of I (biochem, orgo II). I also took orgo I over the summer at uic after taking gen chem at uiuc, and the half of our gen chem unit that was orgo was the entire orgo I class at uic. Aced orgo with no effort after almost flunking gen chem and studying 24/7 back at my uni. Also, i’m sorry to be blatantly honest here but the people from my high school that went to UIC were not as high caliber as the ones that went to UIUC. I can admit that northwestern is definitely a better school than UIUC and someone from there would definitely have more opportunities than someone from UIUC.

Lets be honest; if there are two candidates with the same GPA, same EC’s competing for a job most likely the one from UIUC would be first pick. Evenmoreso with business and engineering where jobs compete to recruit UIUC undergrads that maintain 3.0s. Thats why people work hard to get into the best school they can. The one girl I know who went to UIC that was also very high caliber in high school graduated in three years top of her class (4.0) and is now in medical school. Yes, she still made it in to chicago medical school (which is pretty darn good). However, the person I know with the same stats at uiuc went to harvard medical school. Now with that being said if you are very smart and have to go to UIC for whatever reason, college is still what you make of it. The girl that went to chicago medical school probably would have still gotten into CMS even if she went to U of I. Heck - both are in medical school anyways so why does it matter.

Moral of the story; yes UIUC is harder don’t kid yourself, and yes jobs would prefer a kid from UIUC with the same gpa as one from UIC. But if you are smart you would probably do better at UIC anyways to balance it out. The kid I know who got into harvard medical school from UIUC got into harvard as an undergrad. The kid who got into chicago medical school from UIC got into UIUC as an undergrad; they both pretty much did how they would have done anyways if they went to the “better” school.

Oh as for UIC vs UIUC nursing school; there is no such thing as UIUC nursing school. If you go to UIUC for nursing than your degree will still be from UIC.
