UIUC OR UW MADISON FOR ACTUARIAL SCIENCE

Hello, I am Aisyah and I’m going to transfer from my current college in Malaysia to the United States this coming fall. I am majoring in actuarial science.

I got admitted by 5 universities all together and I have already narrowed down my options to UIUC and UW Madison.
these are the universities:

  • Pennsylvania State University
  • Purdue University
  • UIUC
  • UW Madison
  • Michigan State University

I want to go to UIUC but the thing is, being an international, plus a Muslim student there is not going to be easy and I got no friends that is going there with me. So, I’m thinking of going to UW Madison, but then again, to do act science in UW, there is going to be some requirements/placements test(I don’t know) for us to get admitted into the business school(actuarial science falls under the business school). or in other word, there is no guarantee that I’m going to do act science in UW. Plus, I am sponsored by Malaysian government, so I must make sure that I will do act science, regardless of where I go to. If I go to UIUC, I will definitely become an act student.

I know that I shouldn’t be concerned about having no one because there will be some malaysian seniors there right. But, just to help me in making decision, could you guys help me? tell me what you think of each university. I mean, other factors that I should consider, you know, stuff like the study and campus environment at each uni and so on. Or maybe you were a student in one of the uni, you might wanna tell me your experience too. Or, if you think that I should consider another universities from the list above, I would appreciate it as well cause I am actually thinking of going to Purdue University… heeee:)

Thank you

p/s: btw, I have to decide before 1st June for UW
1st May for Penn State and Purdue University

Since you don’t have a guaranteed admission to your major and you’re a transfer student, you should cross out UW Madison even though it’s an awesome university.
As for the others does net cost factor in?

If you think it won’t be easy at UIUC, I don’t think it will be any easier at Wisconsin either. Honestly, I’ve been to both campuses, and UIUC is MUCH more diverse than Wisconsin. UIUC has a lot of international students, so that’s always a good thing. Which ever school you chose, though, will be a great option.

No, since I am under scholarship. They will cover all the cost of my study

Thank you

maybe the other factor is that I wanna go there and come back home with lots of good memories. I know there is gonna be the time that I’ll cry, but if possible, I don’t wanna cry that much. hehe.

and another one, I dont wanna let go of this once-in-a-lifetime chance. For me to get admitted in these two universities, I have gone through a lot.

I don’t think UIUC would be ‘harder’ socially than UWisconsin Madison.
Do you have housing (space in the dorms)? Email each university and ask whether they still have dorm space for international transfers.

I am not sure about the housing. But I will ask each uni about that later. thank you
