I sent my deposit to UIUC already. I am just wondering if it is worth going to Colby or Macalester at all if I am luckly enough to get off their waitlists.
I am very interested in sciencs, particularly physics. I also would like to pursue many other subjects, history, international relations, economics. I really want undergraduate research experiences. A good social life is also very important to me. So what do you think? Is UIUC the same or even better than these two schools in these aspects, so that I should not bother with them?

I would say to go to Macalester if you can so long as you can afford it.

But then again I hate large schools. Illinois is definitely the strongest in physics. If you think you would like the big school, big 10 atmosphere, go there.

anyone else? bump

I say UIUC. Much better physics program and unless you have a really strong aversion to big schools, it should be a better fit.

UIUC should also be cheaper, although that may not be your case.

Good luck

Colby is very strong in your areas of interest: there are many opportunities for shaping your major across several disciplines. The sciences are extremely strong, as are international studies. The class of 2010 has 12% international students and over two thirds of the students study abroad. Check it out and good luck!
