I'm torn between deciding on Illinois or Penn State-University Park as they are both very similar schools. Both are ranked #47 on the USNWR rankings and appear to have similar amounts of social life and academic rigor.

At Illinois, I was accepted into the College of Media, which is supposedly a very selective college within the University. I'm still unsure of what I want to do within the College of Media, but I am accepted into Journalism and am thinking about possibly switching to Advertising. In addition, I am in the James Scholar Program here which is still something I know little about at this time.

At Penn State, I am accepted into their College of Communications, which seems larger than Illinois' College of Media. Does being a larger college necessarily translate into more internship opportunities?

Since I live in Massachusetts, people often rave about how great Penn State is and urge me to go there. No one that I've talked to around here even knows what the University of Illinois is, so it's difficult to get any advice on the school. After visiting Illinois, I was extremely impressed....but I really haven't heard much about the College of Media except that it's small and selective.

Does anyone know how Illinois compares to PSU in this regard? Also, how difficult is it to switch majors within the College of Media if I decide to do so?
