haha this is the same situation I am in, I am leaning more towards Penn State because the school is more fun. You can’t go wrong with either school, both have a large and faithful alumni base, as well as great job placement rate and starting salary.

U of I is better in business, and trust me the schools arent that differentin terms of social life. Its crazy at U of I.

UIUC would be the better choice, Penn State is a good school though.

well partying is not that important for me, im more interested in the business program AND whats around to do off campus. i know that illinois is all corn fields, wat about penn state?

Penn State is more isolated, the town is not largely on the map as Champaign/Urbana.

I think the town around PS is nicer and has more to offer to students than UC. For business they are pretty even.

US News and World Report ranks the College of Business at UIUC 13th in the nation. Penn State is ranked 21st. Both schools are surrounded by small towns, but the immediate campus area is filled with students, shops, restaurants and businesses that cater to the university community. At UIUC, Chicago is 2.5 hours away by train ($14). While in Chicago, you have access to world class museums, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Theaters and Michigan avenue. At Penn State, Philadelphia is 3.5 hours away.

But NYC is just 4 hours away. UI places mostly in Chicago/midwest and PSU in the tristate PA/NJ/NY area. If you want to work in one or the other that could help make a choice.

UIUC…penn state is too much of a party school. while uiuc is just rite… strong academic focus and lots of partying … the perfect balance

i am international and i chose UIUC over gtech even though gtech is ranked higher…since i want a good social AND academic environment… gtech is a hell hole… that destroys you…

Here is a link to the list of companies that recruited at UIUC in its fall business fair. I’d hardly say they were concentrated in the midwest. Illinois business graduates are sought after by a wide variety of Fortune 500 and multinational firms. Of course many students want to stay employed locally, since they have family and friends here, but it would be misleading to suggest that your employment opportunities after receiving a business degree from UIUC are mainly limited to regional employment. UIUC business grads are targeted by firms the world over.

All I actually said is MOST UI grads take jobs in the Midwest area. According to the UI placement report 88% indeed took jobs in the midwest. 4% went to the northeast and 2% to the mid-atlantic region. I never said it was impossible to work in the northeast if that’s what you wanted but the odds are with staying in the midwest.

http://www.business.illinois.edu/bcs/pdf/Employment-Profile.pdf

And as I actually said most PSU grads work in the northeast/mid-atlantic area.

US: 100 %
Grads accepted jobs in the following US regions:

Northeast: 18 %
Mid-Atlantic: 68 %
Midwest: 4 %
South: 3 %
Southwest: 2 %
West: 5 %

wow, thank you so much everyone, this really helps! I’m leaning more towards UIUC now i think. Good luck to you all!
