UIUC vs UCLA

Hey guys!

With time ticking away, I need to make a decision soon. I've been looking at the two schools for so long, but still can't make the decision.

Which one to go? :(

I know UCLA is the safe option incase I want to change majors to outside of engineering, and the name-value is great.

However, I know that UIUC's engineering is top-class...

Where?!?!?! :(

By the way, it is materials engineering in UIUC and mechanical engineering in UCLA. Also, is it possible to change majors as soon as I go into a school? Let's say, UCLA?

Thanks

You spelled your username wrong. Its baesulgi haha.

And yeah time is ticking (One - Epik High)

Anyways I'd say go with UCLA..

you are korean and you have hard time deciding between UIUC and UCLA?

man, you must have lived in the states for long time.

(or maybe we've both mistaken your nationality)

EXACTLY, if you are going back to korea after undergrad, it is def UCLA

lol PERIOD

but otherwise, it's just the location and social factors

Why UCLA? Do Koreans really regard it that highly?

well, yeah. most ppl in korea (not korean americans) never even heard of UIUC.

heck, they didn't even know what Cornell was while i was doing my internship in Samsung (in Korea).

but everyone knows UCLA.

well, about my internship anyway, my mentor on the first day was like,

"so is your school called Corel or Cornell?"
"Cornell, sir."
"Where is it?"
"NY state, but not NYC. it's up in the mountain, sir."
"i...see."

"Well, it's an ivy league."
"What's ivy league?"
"erm... you know, Harvard, Princeton..."
"what's Princeton?"
"..."

Well, I'm in the progress of going through the SIR right now for.. UCLA..

hahaha xjis, well, it's not just koreans that are like that, in other countries it's even worse...

UCLA wins UIUC in rep easily on a international basis.

heyy... i am presently studying in manipal university in second yearand i'm transferring to us university to complete my undergraduate studies... i got into uiuc, umich, cornell univ for computer science program....
please suggest me which univ i should opt for...

so you will turn down cornell for uiuc and umich?

maybe i have too much pride for my school, but i'd never in million years turn down cornell for either of those schools.

man, i even turned down UC Berkeley for Cornell. not that you should do the same, but sicne you don't even have UCB on your list, the choice would have been really easy if it was for me.

UIUC and Michigan are both excellent programs. They're on par with and, in some areas, offer advantages over Cornell.

Maybe they just don't like gorges and 2-degree weather. ;)

(If I had it to do over again, I'd choose Cornell, but I can see how someone might want to choose UIUC or Michigan.)

If you want the better engineering school, go with UIUC. On an international level, UIUC is better known. UIUC has more foreign students than any other school in the US.

Contraforce, you are incorrect. USC has more international students than any other US University.

Also,

Why do people continue to spew incorrect information without any sources to back it up?

"On an international level, UIUC is better known."

maybe in some countries, but definitely not in Korea.

yes, i do speak for every single koreans out there.

even within the U.S. where I'm from, UCLA had better name recognition than both my school (Cornell) and UIUC... so it definitely has the name recognition going on.

now, im just talking about its name recognition, but nothing related to academic-rigor, what-not.
