I have been accepted into EE for UIUC and rejected from UCLA and UCSD (which means Cal as well). I will probably get into one of the mid UCs (Irvine, Davis, Santa Barbara). Now the question is, is it worth the money and trouble to go OOS UIUC instead of in state UCs?

My goal is to get into top engineering schools. I didn't pay too much attention to my GPA during my high school yeas, but I am determined to devote my effort into keeping my grades up in college. I want to find a balance school between quality of programs and the difficulty to do well.

just to give you perspective… UIUC is one of the most highly regarded institutions for EE. Firms especially like to look to UIUC for hiring straight out of undergrad.

Even though I am a Illinois resident, I’m usually extra critical of UIUC (i hate to say it but i’m usually biased against UIUC), but EE @ UIUC is of a caliber that I can’t deny. As an OOS If money isn’t a serious issue I think UIUC is an excellent choice - as long as you think it’s a right “fit”.

I’m also in CA, denied from UCLA and UCSD. Honestly the only public schools in CA I would consider over UIUC for engineering are UCLA and UC Berkeley. I would have picked UIUC over UCSD anyday.

I’m a comp sci major and the UC’s I got into so far are UCSC and Irvine. Still waiting to hear from the rest, but I’m already set on Illinois.
