I’m OOS, majoring in computer engineering.
Total grants/scholarship: $34,124.00
Work study: $2,800.00
Parent PLUS loans: $6,248.00
My federal loans: $8,500.00
I plan on graduating in 3 to 3.5 years because I have a lot of AP credits (16 APs by the end of this year). How hard is it to establish residency and qualify for in-state tuition? So far, this is the best financial aid package I have received. My only other option is to go to my local college and transfer to my state’s flagship.
That package amount is way more than most in-state students will ever see. If your grants/scholarships are from the university, aren’t they dependent upon maintaining your OOS status? Attempting residency would likely void your scholarships, as to establish residency on your own, you’d have to withdraw from school for a year, support yourself, and be in Illinois for purposes other than education. Could you get back in? Different if a dependent’s family moves to Illinois, maybe somewhat easier, but you would no longer be an OOS student.
