Nice going Chemguy…Now the ACT is history, and you can focus on college. The biggest adjustment is the speed at which material is presented (roughly twice as fast as HS). Take advantage of office hours, and peer groups. They’re an essential way that most students use to prepare for tests. Additionally, students at U of I were all way above average in HS. At U of I, half will be below average, and half at or above. That’s just the way it is. Essentially, your hard work in HS has given you the opportunity to once again work hard in a great college, but the bottom line is you’re closer to your ultimate goal. I hope you do well.

Should i switch my major choice out of chemical engineering? i feel its just too competitive for my stats to compete with

It’s really up to you. If you want to get into ChemE eventually, the closest program would be Chemistry, but it’s not much easier to get into that. Plus, you would eventually need to transfer out of it, and there really is no benefit in transferring from DGS or Chem to ChemE. The only good thing is that you are guaranteed Chem degree if you can’t transfer to ChemE, but like I said, getting into Chem is almost as difficult. If you were considering a different program, then changing may be a consideration, otherwise I wouldn’t unless I knew 100% I wasn’t getting into ChemE, which you don’t since many people get accepted later on (especially engineering and business). Just check over my stats and others that got into ChemE. I am borderline, so I am a fair standard to compare to.

Thanks Chemguy…kinda wish they had just said yes or no or put me in dgs rather than putting me through this process again…

You should definitely get into DGS from what I saw of your stats, its just a question about ChemE.

your messages give me hope…you actually have salvaged my winter break

-thank you
