UK medstudent coming to LA needs advice!

I'm a medstudent from the UK and am coming to do an internship at one of the UCLA hospitals next May. I have a few questions because it's hard to sort some things out without having ever been to UCLA and without knowing anyone there. .

The main thing I was hoping for advice on was accommodation. Whilst there I'd like to get a bit of the American University lifestyle. What area of LA would you recommend I go for? At the moment I've been thinking of westwood, how does that sound? Also do you know any good ways of finding people who need a room mate for about 5 weeks or of any student accommodation that may be be able to take me for that long?

Thanks!

UCLA does have several hospitals in Los Angeles (whether the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center right on the campus, the Medical Center in Santa Monica, or whatever other affiliations there are). Depending on which you will work in, your needs may be different.

A lot of graduate students and young professionals like living in Palms, Los Angeles, which is about four miles south of the UCLA Campus in Westwood. A lot of first-year graduate students also live in University Housing (apartments) in Weyburn Terrace, a block or so away from the campus. You may be able to find more information about getting housing there if possible.

Living in Westwood would put you very close to the campus, but that would place you with a lot of undergraduate students, cramped quarters, and very expensive rates. You may be able to find people subletting their apartment on Craigslist, although a 5-week stay is very brief.
