ULL for Petroleum Engineering.

Hello all. Most of you may be familiar with me already.

I am looking between LSU and ULL for petroleum engineering. Today while i was searching through LSU's main site, i could not find the Tiger Transfer scholarship. Now money being a major issue for me attending school. I started looking at ULL as a sort of back up plan in case LSU prove to be a dud.

Anyone know much about University of Louisiana of Lafayette in general? or about the program? I wont lie i wanted to go to LSU not only for the program but to also have fun in Baton Rouge. Since money is gonna be an issue for me. I am really considering ULL.

Judging from the scholarship and tuition information. I might even be able to get a full ride with scholarships, and grants and be debt free by the time i graduate. (i already have student loans). So folks. Anyone can tell me about ULL? Academically and socially?

Well, the PE Engineering program at ULL is not bad, more like average BUT if you are deciding between the 2 schools, I would pick LSU for the following reasons:

Baton Rouge is a much more fun city than Lafayette IMO, also Baton Rouge is more like a real college town, Lafayette does not feel like a college town to me.

If you are looking for more than just academics and finishing school with little debt, I am sure you will have much better social opportunities in Baton Rouge, I am personally not a big fan of Lafayette.

LSU has a Petroleum Engineering Well Control facility on campus where you can get some hands on experience while you are in school, it is a very neat place and if I am not mistaken, it is the only university in the country that has a facility like it.

LSU has more school spirit obviously, they were the #2 college football team in the country last year and LSU fans are very passionate.

Once again, this is just my opinion. I have no doubt that if you went to ULL, you would be just fine, but I think LSU would offer you more in terms of social activities and getting some hands on experience before getting your first internship.

You will have better job opportunities at LSU, bar none, and LSU does have the well facility that is top of the line. Weatherford and Mi Swaco do some major equipment testing there.
If you are looking for the college experience, I wouldn’t write off ul completely. Lafayette is definitely a party town. Lafayette also has a lot more culture than Baton Rouge. Aside from LSU football, there aint much in BR. But the college is much bigger and you will get a more college-like experience. Also, the girls at LSU are much hotter. UL doesn’t have as hot girls as I would think. (but you can go downtown at night to find them.)

So you have ups and downs for both places. UL will be an easier degree too.
Note: The LSU football experience is amazing, and when the team is hot you won’t find a gameday like it anywhere.

The only thing really making me second guess LSU is financing my education. Im paying for everything by my self and i have no scholarships other than pell grant at the moment. Im sure i can land some once i transfer over because i do have good grades. And on all honesty i was really leaning on that Tiger Transfer Scholarship which seem to just have been cut this week LOL.

Originally i was thinking that maybe i should just spend one year or two at ULL. bring my debt to zero and save some money. and spend my last year at LSU. but thinking about it seems kinda tiresome when i should just go to either one for the the two or three years i need to graduate

Well hopefully if i can land an internship next summer. i won’t have to worry much about money that much. only thing stopping me from landing one this summer is that i live in the Northeast currently. I constantly have people asking me to sign anti-oil petitions and what not. so opportunities are naturally slim.
