hey ... i just got into Washington U St Louis, i know i probably wont go there ... i m still set of michigan, but I really want to revisit. But my mom wont let me go becoz she "heard that it's the city with the highest crime rate in america".....is it really that bad???

You may get more responses if you post your thread on one of the College boards (College Admissions, College Search & Selection, or even the Parents' Forum). It's unlikely you'll get information from the Prep School board.

bearcats,

You might want to post over on the college admissions side, as I have seen the school mentioned from time to time, so there are a few knowledgable folks over there.

Good luck.

I think it's a good idea to revist because that school has a fine reputation that has been rising. Agree that it should go on the board for the college. I haven't been to St. Louis in decades. Congratulations!

The other thing you can do is contact the Hotchkiss alumni office, and ask to speak to alums who went there.

oh i just thought there might be more parents here .ya .i think i will post on the college board instead

Downtown St. Louis is experiencing some "urban renewal" and does have a few "rough streets" .. but Wash U is one of the finest schools in the state.
The campus is beautiful and set in one of the richest neighborhoods in St. Louis on the outskirts of Forest Park. This is a great school. Go visit!

Bearcats - see your pm box - in a nutshell - St. Louis is a great place to go to school and not at all any more dangerous than anywhere else, despite those stats. We go there all the time, and love it. More info in private.

My former TIP roommate lives in St. Louis. From what I know, she loves it. She wants to go to WashU, too. It's a really great school. Ranked very high.

haha olivia, Wash U engineering is like the worst major within the university ... Wash U really doesnt appeal to me much becoz even tho it's the harvard of midwest, it's totally unknown outside of the US...

No offense, but I wouldn't really call Washington U. "the Harvard of the Midwest." U. of Chicago is more like it. As for crime rates, even if St. Louis does indeed have the highest crime rate in America (don't know, personally), a lot more depends on where the school is located within the city. All big cities have dangerous and relatively "safe" areas--Washington U.'s location seems fine.

Good call on Chicago!! WashU is suburban really.....not downtown.

U of Chicago??Nah... Northwestern!!!!!! jk... that's another whole thread.
