Umaine Orono. HELP PLEASE.

Anyone out here go to umaine orono. im really looking here as my possible first choice, as long as i get into the honors college. being that i am out of state, any thoughts. do you like it? not like it? reasons? is iit true that mainers really dont like people from out of state?

any information would be helpful. im having a hrd time making up my mind.

BUMP. please, any information would be a great help.

I don't go there, but lots of my high school friends do, and from what I hear they love it.

It's a state school so there is drinking/partying, but the honors college is excellent and I would be willing to bet that you could make like-minded friends there easily; it's the oldest honors college in the country, or some distinction like that. I assume you get closer contact with professors, priority registration (or separate classes), and other similar perks.

Mainers don't hate out-of-staters, they really don't (even though I obviously can't speak for everyone). However, be prepared for the majority of students to be in-state (of course).

Orono's biggest sport is hockey and the campus is nice, especially if you've never lived outside of a city. Even if you live in a rural section of your state, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised by the campus.

I think the school tries to advertise the face that they have the resources for many more students than are actually enrolled, so you'll get personal attention without the over-crowded dining halls and dorms.

Overall, I believe UMaine Orono is a wise choice, but I don't have personal experience there. About 20% of students are out-of-state.

Feel free to ask more questions, but I can't guarantee I know the answers.
