Umass Amherst(37k; after 14k scholarship) vs Purdue(47k) vs Texas A&M (47k)vs Virginia Tech(46k)

I am an International Student and accepted to these universities for computer science with corresponding fees. My main motive is getting good research facilities at an affordable rate. Can someone please rank these universities based on their undergrad CS course as getting ranks UNDERGRAD ranks is difficult to find on net for CS . Also I have heard that, umass doesnt give much research facilities to international students. Is it true?

Since money is a concern, I can’t see any benefits of paying more for the other 3 over UMass, which has a fine CS department.

I’ve also never heard of any research department providing less research facilities to international students than other undergrads students.

I don’t think it’s possible to objectively rank them, but they’re all good.

That doesn’t make sense.

Maybe you’re asking about internship and co-ops. Everywhere, not just at UMass, it is hard for int’ls to get co-OP’s and internships because many high tech companies will not hire int’ls.

@mom2collegekids can you rank my choices keeping aside fees based on their undergrad CS course?

There’s a reason why undergraduate CS rankings are difficult to find. Number one, ranking CS departments would be dependent on some factors that departments and universities often don’t release to the public. Number two, undergraduate students really take around 2/3 of their classes outside of their major department. You’re not attending college for a specific program; you are really going to get an all-around liberal arts degree - your major is just a little area of depth you can develop. You want to choose a school for a holistic experience, not just the CS department.

All of these schools have great CS departments with opportunities to do research. So really, I don’t think it would be useful for you to rank them, especially keeping aside money. Money is an important factor, unless you are wealthy enough that it doesn’t matter.

As was already said, I don’t see the point in paying more for Wisconsin, VT or TAMU if you can go to UMass for a lot less. That’s a $40K difference over four years. But if that’s not substantial to you, then really you could go to any of these and have a great educational experience.
