@mrpwnage What letter does your last name start with? I’m thinking it’s based on the letters of the alphabet. What were your friends stats who got into UMass for CS?
@mrpwnage By the way, I haven’t gotten one too, and my last name is at the very end of the alphabet. My friend, whose last name starts with W, told me she got hers mid January.
@mrpwnage @asleepypotato Our last name begins with E and we are instate. I thought his ACT and SATs were very good. He’s in all AP and Honors classes. Taking AP computer science this year. Wants computer engineering. We’ve heard nothing yet. But again, I called admissions earlier this week to make sure we weren’t missing anything and they told me letters are continuing to go out for the next two weeks. Stressful.
@asleepypotato My last name begins with L, so I don’t think it is alphabetical.
My CS friends had similar stats to me (4.4 weighted GPA and 33 ACT). I’m still worried though, since UMass has a tendency to accept some applicants as undecided rather than CS due to heavy volume and the competitiveness of CS, and it’s more likely that they will do this as they process more and more applications.
@mrpwnage Yea, maybe it isn’t by last name. I’m a little bit worried as well, but my friend who was in state got accepted mid January so we still have some time. However one of my friends with a 27 ACT and not that good of a GPA got into CS at UMass Amherst like a week ago.
@asleepypotato Do you know the stats for your friend who got accepted mid-January? And was he/she accepted directly in CS?
@mrpwnage She didn’t apply to CS but she did apply to pre med which is also kind of competitive and she got a 35 ACT and had a lot of doctor related community service. But just letting you know there are some people that get accepted late with also good stats
@asleepypotato I wouldn’t worry too much with those stats. Maybe tomorrow…
This is what Spire says, which is weird b/c it makes it seem like the application is not complete, but the status check says it is complete:
We have received your admissions application for Fall 2016. We are pleased that you are interested in UMass Amherst, and we look forward to learning about your interests and accomplishments.
We cannot review your file until all required credentials have been received. Please check the status of your application…
Anyone else have this same info on the home spire page?
@2018eastorwest that’s the standard spire page. if you look to the right on that page anything that is missing would show in “to do” list
I got my letter yesterday - my SPIRE says congratulations on the homepage but my application is still “under review.” I also got a $6,000 Community Award. I’ll post my stats below:

Can anyone advise me which amongst the following are best to attend for undergrad in CS: Michigan state, Penn state-University Park & Umass-Amherst. I have been accepted in al three of them. My preference is Penn. But just wanted to hear from other experienced fellas.
@2018eastorwest I called admissions about that because I thought it meant I was missing something and I wasn’t. That’s what they have on everyone’s page.
@bilal11 Umass Amherst CS dept is rated higher than the other 2
Nothing in the mail or on spire today.
I’m really getting frustrated that I haven’t heard back yet.
Nothing yet for me either. In state and attend a top prep school. Applied for Engineering .
2190 SAT (760M 740CR 690W)
SAT II: 780 M2, 730 Physics
Hoping to hear something this week
@JamieH I feel you. It seems like most of my friends who applied got their letters (on the November 1 deadline as well) got their letters. I applied in advance and still don’t have a decision; it seems a bit unfair.
@mrpwnage @JamieH
Couldn’t agree more. As far as I can tell they don’t have any sort of system for who gets their letters first and if they do then they still haven’t shared it. If they had so many applicants then they should’ve just released all of them mid-Jan.
I feel everyone who is frustrated. I applied the day before the deadline (10/31) and I still haven’t gotten a response.
Nothing for today… I’m slowly losing hope everyday
