Great to hear! Congrats! Do you mind sharing his stats and extras? @WayToGoBro
Roughly 3.7… 1250… Lots of honors/AP and 3 letter sports plus some clubs… Sorry I don’t have the specifics right now… Bad dad;)
@WayToGoBro what major was he accepted for?
Could you check spire to see what day they processed his application? Apparently they might be doing it in order of when you sent it in.
There’s no way they’re doing it in order of submission date because my son has still not heard and he submitted 10/1.
Chemistry (pre-med) - I don’t have Spire access but I know he had a problem that his scores were not sent and had to pay to get them sent again a couple weeks ago. He was at incomplete until like Jan 1.
Don’t think there is really a definitive queuing theory in play here, but seems from this thread that it may be honors, then scholarship money, then everyone else as they get to it.
I’m fairly confident that there is no rhyme or reason to it. It just sucks for the people (like your son, @becautious) who were diligent and applied quite early.
I emailed them recently about the status and heard the following:
“Your application is still under review. We received over 16,000 Early Action applications and want to make sure we take the time with each one, hence the reason it is taking us a little longer than anticipated to get all decisions out. You should have your decision in the next few weeks.”
I then asked “does time delay in reviewing an application indicate hesitation or uncertainty in the decision, or is it simply due to the sheer volume of applications as you say?” and received in response:
“Our application volume increases each year and therefore we are sometimes not quite ready for the growing pains! No need to worry about the length of time we have had your application. Please let me know if you have any other questions.”
Hope this puts your minds at ease.
So how many other people have still not heard from UMass? I applied 10/28 EA and haven’t received anything. Could this mean a deferral? I would assume an acceptance or denied letter would be sent out right away. I would be very surprised if acceptances for the fall where still to be sent out. Or I could be wrong.
It still says my application is under review.
A kid I help to apply EA is also under review. I think they probably will put him in RD pool.
I am hoping that there still will be acceptances for undeclared etc. Fingers crossed for everyone! I haven’t heard any defers or denies.
Yes , we listened very closely at the admissions preso when we took the tour, and they said it would be helpful to them if applicants applied as early as October. We did so, but I think since my son applied Undeclared it may be that he gets reviewed towards the end of the Early Action pile. It seems like they processed the Nursing, Engineering, Computer Science, Chem/Bio, Business students first. I think the other majors and Undeclared will be processed soon. I’d rather a slow yes vs a fast no. I’m sure they are doing the best they can in a record year for EA. They are human beings with their own families, challenges, etc…I’m cutting them slack as I am hoping they are doing a very thorough job. We have other acceptances with great merit money in hand, and others we will learn about shortly as well. If he gets a UMass Amherst acceptance we will strongly consider that for certain. If he doesn’t it will be fine since we have other great choices. Life is like a river…it goes where it must. ( a quote I heard once). Peace to all
Has anyone heard anything recently?? I can’t believe I still haven’t heard and I’m really stressed now
@nikeluv are you in-state or out of state? My D is out of state and also has not heard yet. I’m hoping tomorrow!
I’m in state and still haven’t heard either. I applied for nursing so I’m really getting worried.
I am in the same boat as @JamieH . Let’s all cross our fingers that we get our letters this week!
@dsotm1973 What does your last name start with?
hey guys - I didn’t get in. I found out through spire, not snailmail, this morning. I encourage everyone to check their spire accounts because I believe most should be updated (two of my classmates and I found out today)! Best of luck!!!
What were your stats? Sorry to hear you didn’t get in.
I’m in state…still haven’t heard and applied for Social Thought & Political Economy (STPEC) on 10/1. I have a 3.67, rough SAT, but outstanding EC’s-statewide elected positions, multiple clubs, executive boards, sport, etc. I have been dying to hear back. Anyone else apply for STPEC?
