UMass Amherst Class of 2020 Decision Thread

@wishfulmomma all decisions are posted on spire account before the admissons office send them out in mail.

I thought that too, but many that got the decisions in the mail still read under review. Thank you though! @Klossy

Admitted RD into CNS with 12K scholarship, OOS
Heard through email, but portal not updated (and apparently update can take 10 days???)

@TheRealTalq My son was able to transfer from ECE to CS fairly easily. Filled out some paperwork, became a student “on contract” and then had to successfully complete several prerequisite CS courses. Once those grades came in, his school and major were switched.

I got it via email. (Pdf format)
Umass said it will update my portal approx. 10-12 days later and tell me about my major.

For those getting emails, are these recent? Any financial/scholarship info with the emails?

im international from pakistan but i have not heard anything yet

@umass2020

Only information about merit aid is given in the emails. Total need based financial aid package will be shown on the portal when it is updated. I didn’t apply for fin aid but i guess that’s how it’ll be…

@TheRealTalq we attended admitted student day. Were you admitted to the "exploratory track?"There were a lot of questions about that during the CS break-out talk. Students who were not admitted directly into CS. Anyway, they talked about classes and grades required to transfer in, but would not give a definite answer what those grades would need to be, they have only so many spots for CS (its a closed major) and it seemed depending how many students were trying and what their grades were would determine what the criteria would be. If my son was not directly admitted into the CS major I’m not sure he would attend. Just our take on the info we heard. If you really want Umass since you were admitted to engineering and received a scholarship maybe the transfer would be easier for you.

@TheRealTalq are you saying they aren’t accepting any more CS students? My son is still waiting to hear, but if he can’t get into CS as his major right away he won’t attend even if he is accepted. The wait is so frustrating.

My apologies @TheRealTalq, I meant to ask @beaner89 that question…

Accepted! Received a folder on March 14th. My portal has still not been updated.
Good luck to all of you!

@umass2020 There were just many students there who were accepted into the new “exploratory track” instead of the major. They do accept only so many to CS, but they didn’t say if it was full or not.

@jadetortoise Was your acceptance letter dated as March 10?

@Lerxst sounds simple enough, thanks for the info! @beaner89 thank you for the reply. I was admitted to my second choice major, on the acceptance letter it just says I’m in the School of Engineering. From what I’ve seen, it looks like UIUC or Purdue CS would be safer options for me.

A friend of mine was rejected last night via e-mail. Still waiting to hear back anxiously !!! 8-|

@TheRealTalq looks like you have great options if you decline Umass. Best of luck to you!

Man, so sick of waiting. Son applied in December and we still are waiting…

@keikikyrag was your friend RD or a Defer? Just curious. I’m sorry for her though.

This thread has definitely helped. My S got into UCONN but not Engineering. Waitlisted to CASE, VA Tech and RPI, in at RIT as second choice, so this is distressing for us. I am looking at this thread everyday, with hopes that the decisions start trickling in. We would love to see something this week.
