My son received a 2K scholarship for UMass Amherst in state, also accepted to honors college. He attends private school so he does not have MCAS scores.
I think it’s more holistic than what major you applied to. The young man who will be the valedictorian of my son’s high school who was accepted to Harvard ED was not offered the honors college, and my son was…the other student’s grades and test scores are way higher. And they applied for the same major - biology. They seem to be looking for something intangible at UMass for direct admission to CHC.
Another factor regarding giving the Honors College option could be the probability of the student accepting the admissions offer.
That could absolutely be true.
The honors college process does seem to be different than the admitting process. I got Commonwealth Honor’s College at UMass, which I was very surprised by, but didn’t get into honors colleges at some other schools that are less competitive than UMass. It would be interesting to know the different criteria each school uses!
I would be interested in this as well. I know of several high achieving kids that did not get honors college this year and we were surprised. My daughter has a 34 act 98 weighted gpa 8 Aps. captain of sport blah blah blah. Post something later if you hear anything. Thanks so much!
That makes sense- thanks for sharing! I was confused because I have been accepted to all of the other honors colleges I applied to that have released decisions so far. However, this was the first one I had heard back from so it definitely made me nervous!
I definitely think this plays into their decisions. There seems to be a sweet spot (stats wise) that they are looking for. I also wonder if they take demonstrated interest into account.
I think they just released another batch. I have a friend who just got in, has anybody else heard today?
Will do… I know it’s frustrating… Still it remains high on my daughter’s list, maybe #2.
do we think they’ll release some today? i feel like jm losing my mind a little more after every batch is released
I think so. My D was accepted to UDELs honor program but not UMASS’s. I think UDELs is more competitive too so not sure what happened. We showed no demonstrated interest. Maybe that was the issue.
Dd19 and dd21 were accepted in UD’s honors program, dd21 was not accepted in UMASS honors, Dd19 was not accepted into Rutgers honors, dd21 still waiting. Students with lower stats were accepted into UMASS and Rutgers honors, I think it’s based on more than grades and test scores.
I really do think it’s kind of random… there doesn’t seem to be a consistent pattern amongst applicants. Maybe that’s the pattern; maybe they want unique applicant and whoever they get to first who is qualified and has a particular/skill interest is admitted? I don’t know, definitely no worth guessing I guess. You can just apply after semester 1 anyway.
Hi all, I applied early action to the computer science program on November 5, 2020 (2nd choice psychology). I have a uw gpa of 3.88 and a wgpa of 4.30 with no sat submitted. Does anyone have any information as to when they will release the remainder of the EA decisions?
Good luck to all.
They replied to me on insta and said “We’re aiming to release all EA decisions by 31st Jan”
I applied for CS and chose Psychology as my 2nd choice as well lol. I haven’t received my decision yet and it is low-key annoying not knowing when they’ll release the decisions and whether or not mine would be included in that wave.
And good luck to you, too!
Jan-31st is a Sunday don’t think UMASS releases on Sunday. It’s probably Thursday of that week.
Communication is really bad they been sending through out Jan updates , barely any decisions released this month
They’ll send before Sunday
Guys just when will we receive our decisions.
