UMASS Amherst Decisions 2022

Yes thanks, I missed the window to correct it. Wish it was a bit longer since I didn’t realize it until I signed back on. I’ll be more careful in the future. Glad I’m not applying, I’d be out! :smiley:

I’m from MA near RI border and i got my acceptance today. Applied end of October. 1260 SAT and 3.4 GPA UW.

I got an email at 5:15pm

If you don’t end up getting into Umass Amherst nursing, do you end up being rejected from the whole school?

@icecream25 no, most of the time if you are qualified they will give you your second choice major, or you could be deferred to RD

@icecream25 Yes I believe so, unfortunately.

I attended an information session and the lady who talked to us, who was AMAZING by the way, said that many kids who apply to nursing or business are given their second choice major if they have to stats to get into the school, just not the specific program.

Can I still get into the nursing program under regular decision? I didn’t apply early because the early application pool is so competitive so I wait until the regular pool to have a little less competitive applicants.

@icecream25 i’m sure you can, they wouldn’t fill up their entire nursing class EA, however, they did recommend nursing majors to apply early, because of the competitiveness

@plsacceptme25 congrats! nothing here, near RI too. What major?

@icecream25
My daughter considered nursing and emailed the university- here is the email she received. About half way down it says if you are not accepted into nursing you are not accepted into the university.

You requested some information about the Nursing Major in the UMass Amherst College of Nursing. The College of Nursing only takes students who are coming directly out of high school.

We take no transfers at present time and future transfer capabilities are not known.

Students apply to our program directly through UMass Amherst Admissions. www.umass.edu/admissions through the Common Application. This is a very competitive application process.

o Strong “A-“ weighted GPA (all AP, Honors and College-Level courses are considered)

o SAT scores: 1200 or better (average 1360)

o ACT scores: 28 or better (average 29)

o Rank for Nursing Honors program is top 10%; we don’t rank for non-Honors placement.

o State requirements are now 3 science labs in high school (ie, Biology, Chemistry, possibly Anatomy & Physiology, Physics)

o Math is required all 4 years in high school.

We ask University Admissions for 80 students they give us about 90 out of a possible 1800 original applicants. About 14% were accepted ending with 80 students. If you apply for Nursing and do not get accepted, according to University Admissions, you will not be accepted at all to the University.

Our undergraduate program has 3 options: the Nursing Major freshmen entry, an accelerated BS degree option (must have a Bachelor’s degree in something else), and a RN to BS option.

If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me at etheroux@acad.umass.edu. Please also visit the website at www.umass.edu/nursing click into Programs and/or Admissions then Undergraduate then The Nursing major.

We do not have regular information sessions for this track. However, you can set up an appointment with me to set up a tour.

Don’t let the loves of your life walk away!

We were told you could only apply to Nursing and would have to re apply to get in under another major. When you apply Nursing you are not given a second choice major to fill in.

Will someone chance me?
I’m afraid my GPA will not be good enough for Isenberg. that the others who applied have higher level GPA and academic rigor.
My HS offers top notch Honors and AP classes. I didn’t take any. I’m not someone that likes 3 hours of homework each night.

If you didn’t take high level courses then how do you have a weighted gpa

It seems a little unfair that other majors can be accepted to their second choice, but not nursing majors. Also, when I attended an information session in April, she said they don’t consider any nursing applicants who have an SAT lower than 1340. Hopefully that has changed

I definitely filled out a second choice major on my application.

@mkcblackberry I did too

how do i see where/if i got scholarships?

Not sure about nursing but it very clearly says on their website,
“Freshman: Should space limitations or your academic background preclude admission to your choice of major(s), you may be considered for our Exploratory Track Program. You can also apply to an Exploratory Track if you are undecided about a major”. So obviously you are considered for the exploratory program which I assume is like applying undecided.
