I still haven’t received a decision yet. I’ve emailed admissions a few times and all they tell me is that my application is complete and that they are still sending out decisions.
hi jdot96. Just to let you know, my daughter is finishing up her first semester at UMass Amherst (honors college) in Linguistics, although she’ll be a junior as of January (lots of APs and college classes in high school). She is VERY happy there - loves her classes, loves the Linguistics department, loves the campus, loves the peace and quiet of the honors campus. I love visiting her there on an occasional weekend, because it’s beautiful there, and the food in the dining halls is great. Who knows whether she’ll be able to make a living afterwards, although she is trying computer science next semester, but for her, the school is a perfect fit.
Hello everyone!
First of all, I want to congratulate everyone in receiving their acceptances—students and their parents. You deserve to bask in the momentary joy, for it is well-deserved. You all have overcome the struggles of your academic careers and the college application process, and that is worth applauding.
I also want to thank those who shared their inputs on this thread so far (especially you @jdot96!). They have given us a sense of comfort and closure, and for that we are grateful.
@ybabdaedsdez Hang on there! 'Tis no surprise Amherst hasn’t finished sending out the last few bunches of decisions yet. This is, after all, what I previously expected. I’d give it until Christmas, which—I know!—is grueling.
As for me… well, I basked in the momentary joy of receiving my acceptance. But unfortunately, it was just that—momentary. It pains me to say that I will not be enrolling at Amherst. The decision was based on something out of my control, which is the oh-so-dreadful finances. My financial aid package was not generous, as you can imagine. But there is no way I can pay out all the rest without pulling the hair out of my scalp (let’s not get into what my parents think). It hurts to know that my efforts and anxiety have been easily washed away into obscurity. It hurts even more to know that I may have to endure another torturous semester at my current uni if I want to continue my higher education. It’s not like I have a choice at this point.
Regardless, I hope you all enjoy your Holidays!
My daughter applied very late as a transfer (11/8) and was told even though it was past the deadline they would still accept her application per the admissions office. UMass has acknowledged receipt of everything. To this date she has still not received an acceptance or rejection. She has already withdrawn from her other college, she has a 3.6 gpa in an engineering program and wants to transfer to the biology program. Are there others out there still waiting for an answer???
