I highly doubt I’m the only one in the boat, so how come no one has decided to join us all together?
Anybody, feel free to post whatever you feel is relevant to the thread—from stats to admission questions to why you applied in the first place. I’ll start:
I’m a first-semester freshman ('21) seeking a transfer because I absolutely detest my current school. It was never one I wanted to attend, even as I applied to it. I simply did it for the satisfaction of my parents, who wanted me to choose a school based on proximity (in order to commute without struggles; they were VERY adamant on me commuting, which I absolutely had no intentions to) and lower tuition+costs. Surprise. Look where that has gotten me—I’m terribly unmotivated and sad. I can’t click with anybody here. I don’t feel like I don’t belong. Everytime I step foot here, I feel like I made a bad decision in choosing this as the place to spend the next four years at. Also, because I still live at home (and I work), I have had to place my responsibilities in those two sectors of my life above school. So my grades have been suffering.
But now, I wanna take charge of my life by doing what makes me happy. So I applied to UMass Amherst because I feel it will be the breath of fresh air brought into my life; it’ll be a new chapter in a sense. I live in an urban area in MA, so the scenic Pioneer Valley will bring a new lens for me to view the world through. I’m very interested in their Department of Anthropology (which is what I applied as a major), because it is very expansive, in depth and breadth. All while keeping this under relatively low tuition and costs (in comparison to private schools in-and-near Boston, let’s say).
So that’s my story!
Question: have any of you received your Spire log-in info? Or better yet, a decision? I know by applying on deadline day (I know, not smart), I’m expected to be apart of the last bunch that gets to know, but the wait is killing me! Ugh!
Hi, just wanted to add that my son applied 9/15 (for Spring transfer) and he also hasn’t heard yet. No Spire account, just the status page that shows everything complete. I will update if any changes, good luck to all!
Apparently, last year’s spring transfer applicants (the ones who applied for the 2017 spring term) received their Spire accounts by “mid-November.” Unless my definition of “mid-November” is off, we should’ve received our log-ins by now, no? The wait is torturing at this point.
I called undergrad admissions two days ago to ask for an indication of acceptance (my current situation requires that I plan in advance for the spring; in no way was I trying to be pushy). The woman who spoke could not help me in that regard. What she did say, however, was that applications were completed, and in line to be reviewed. Decisions are to be released starting mid-December.
Regarding Spire log-ins, they’re not to be received until after you received acceptance; an e-mail will be sent. How do you find out if you’re accepted then? Well, a separate e-mail will be sent to your e-mail address, as well as it being displayed on your Student Status Page, where all your application materials are listed.
Hi! I’m in my first semester of college and I recently got an emailed from UMass asking for my midterm grades, I don’t know if thats good or not, but that’s the last I’ve heard from them. I have also heard they send out their acceptance letters towards the end of December if that’s any help to anyone!
I’m sure you’ve gotten your answer by now, but yeah—totally normal! Neither good or bad, just something you need to take care of; it’s just admissions way of checking to see if you’ve been slacking since the last transcript you sent them. If you have, then the chances of how soon you may be accepted and enrolled will be jeopardized. If you haven’t, then good work! Keep it up!
Though I have yet to receive that email myself, I am curious—when did you submit your application? I assume you sent your final HS transcript as well, no?
I applied late (mid-October) and have called admissions a few times as my current university has been asking if I will be here in the spring (I am assuming they want to know if they’re going to have an empty bed). When I called on Tuesday I was told that decisions have begun to be sent out and should wrap up in early December. Mid-December seems late to me, especially since most students planning to transfer will need to know whether they should leave belongings in their current dorm or not. I personally leave school on December 20 for break, and I know that UMASS finishes finals on that day as well.
I don’t know… That seems too promising of Amherst to be true. UAmherst admissions are notorious for stretching the wait time for decisions. However, does anybody want to confirm this news? To ease my suspicion… Haha!
Hi guys! I am a junior applying as a transfer this upcoming spring semester. I applied 9/25 and was accepted on 11/17 with a psychology major. Did any of you guys receive your financial package yet (scholarships/grants/etc.)?
My gpa was actually pretty low 3.3. I had an amazing recommendation letter and lists of outside activities and leadership roles. My personal statement was checked by multiple professors at my current university before submission. I’m applying from a public university in a different state. I did not submit my high school transcript nor ACT/SAT scores!
I received my acceptance yesterday at around 5pm by e-mail. Congrats to all!
As for Financial Aid, well… I haven’t received mine yet. But that perhaps has to do with the fact that I have yet to fill out my FAFSA for the 2018-2019 year (I hang my head in shame). I will do so immediately!
Are they done sending out acceptances??? I just sent in my midterm grade report today and was received this afternoon, I have all As. Anyone know when I will know? This is my first year so very confused and nervous about everything!
I received my acceptance on Tuesday and was also accepted to the Commonwealth Honors College! I was told at my information session that transfer students are not considered for scholarships, but I am waiting on my financial aid as well. They told me it should be within 2 weeks of acceptance - if you are transferring for the spring, be sure to add UMass to your 2017-18 FAFSA as well, so you can get aid if eligible for the spring term.
Hello, just an update that my son was accepted on Friday (3.2 in HS, 4.0 in 3 semesters at UMass Boston). He got no merit scholarships (expected), offer for the honors college (unexpected), and his first choice major (linguistics). Congrats to all, especially @velvetears for all the info. and updates, and best of luck to those still waiting.
