My daughter got into UMA and BU. UMA is half the cost of BU for us as she is not eligible for any scholarships or financial aid outside of federal loans. BU will be a hardship for us to help pay but she feels it is the better investment as it is harder to get into and has more “prestige”. I have researched both and am still not sure. Very expensive at full price. She is looking to go to Grad school after, maybe law?? I want to help her but today I am not sure if BU is worth twice the price.
At full price BU is not worth it. Have her go to UMass and then try for BU law school.
Bu at full price is not worth it (it’s very overpriced in fact).
In fact UMass has this amazing opportunity through the 5-college Consortium nthar she could take classes at colleges that are more highly ranked than BU.
You may want to ‘sweeten the deal’ by offering to save some of the savings for law school and for a semester abroad. (It should still be less than BU full price and will actually help your daughter with her plans, unlike the BU costs.)
Did she get into the honors college at UMass? If not, perhaps have her email the college and ask to be reconsidered, highlighting her favorite
books and classes. Any otherr universities that are affordable? (I assume most would be in between BU and UMass in price ).
Thanks. My gut says the same. I would rather save the money for graduate school.
We are out of state and did full tours at UMass Amherst and Boston College last summer. We loved both and sons applied to both schools. Finances an issue so we prepared them that will be a factor. UMass has made leaps in rankings and has a lot to offer.
It’s out of the question, but did she applied early actions for both school? I thought the decision releasing date is the end of the march for both schools?
“At full price BU is not worth it”
My feeling exactly. We also toured both.
She applied ED for BU and EA for UMA.
If she was accepted ED at BU and what you are expected to pay matches the NPC or you didn’t apply for financial aid, then your daughter is required to enroll at BU due to the terms of her ED agreement. This thread is a moot point.
Didn’t realize the ED aspect of this. Why did you allow her to apply ED if you knew that you would not be eligible for financial aid?
