I am either going to Umass Amherst, or IU Bloomington for a degree in sport management next year. However, I am having a very difficult time deciding where I want to go. I was hoping that someone could provide some information or insight to help me make a decision. Any kind of information about the sport management programs, campuses, student life or really anything that could factor into a college decision would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Is cost a factor for you? IUB has a better reputation for campus beauty and student life than UMASS, and has very well thought of business programs across the board.

Cost is somewhat of a factor. And I received a scholarship to umass, but not IU

Cost is going to be an issue here, but I can relate this story about IU. Son of a friend started out there in sports management. Switched to finance, and now is a sophomore. He has summer internship opportunities at P&G and two of the big accounting firms. So IU clearly has connections to some big time companies, even if you decide sports management is not for you, which is something to consider. But I don’t think either is a bad choice.

IU is a huge party school for some. Greek life is huge. It is a small town, beautiful campus, but very isolated.

There are places VASTLY more isolated than Bloomington, Indiana. Trust me. Add in a 4:1 male-female ratio, and I wouldn’t wish my alma mater on anyone, no matter how good it was or wasn’t. Not regretting it, but wouldn’t do it again, and neither will my children.

MrMom, am I to understand that you went to Indiana? Why do you say 4:1 ratio? Their CDS shows a 50-50 ratio. Also, why would you not do it again or send your children?

No, his alma mater had a 4:1 ratio, NOT IU.

Correct. IU is fine. Missouri S&T might be a fine engineering school, but its social life leaves something to be desired. As they say, it’s a real sausagefest and two hours from anywhere.
