Hey guys. So I was just accepted to UMASS Amherst's Commonwealth College (basically the honors college.) I was also accepted to Williams College but they gave me absolutely no financial aid which is really not cool. I need to know if going to UMASS Amherst would be a waste of my life. Are the classes too easy? How are professors? Do people hate the school as much as I've heard? I don't want the next four years of my life to suck but I also don't want to graduate with a mountain of debt... I will be majoring in English or History and god knows there's not much money in that...

You could use your full ride to UMass as leverage in squeezing some money out of Williams.

You shouldn’t assume that classes will be easy just because UMass isn’t a premiere public school. As a participant in the Honors Program, the University will find challenges for you and the professors will pay attention to you.

And, if you want to liberal arts college feel, Amherst is a 10 minute bus ride away.

Your life is what you make of it. Your life may suck if you go to Williams and realize that the completely rural life isn’t the one for you. If you don’t find a niche right away, you may despair. Whereas at UMass, you’re bound to find someone or something.

Williams is the superior choice, but you need to have a long talk with them, show them you really want to attend, use your full scholarship as your trump card.

How much would you personally have to pay to go to Williams and could your family afford it? Did you get any scholarship to UMass? Are you from Mass? And yes, you could get a GREAT education from UMass.
