UMass Boston Questions!

Unlike what I have read, I have seen the UMass Boston Campus (sort of from afar)(across the parking lot) and I liked it. I am really interested in applying there for my fall 2008 freshman year (I am a rising junior in HS). However, my whole perception of UMB could be crushed by a few factors. Does anyone have answers?

I know that UMB doesn’t currently have dorms. How involved are they, however, in helping out-of-state freshmen find places to stay?

Is it easy to find a place to stay?

Are there people who go to UMB that arn’t born-and-raised from Boston?

Approximately how expensive is living around UMB with rental and tuition costs?

I really hope that I can get some answers soon so that I can narrow my college choices. UMB is one of those mysterious schools that looks great, but I don’t know much about.

Pippen, UMass Boston is really a suitcase school. It is primarily commuters who live in the area, older students, or working students. I don't know what the percentage of out of state students is, but any commuter school will not have a high percentage.

In terms of cost, Boston is one of the most expensive cities in the whole country. Even with roommates, it is a very expensive proposition to live around the city. There are LOTS of students in Boston, all vying for the same apartments, and anything vaguely well priced goes in a heartbeat.

And off campus living, as a Freshman, won't provide you with much social life. If you are very independent, and don't care about dorm or campus activities, this may not bother you, but it is something to consider.

Hope that wasn't too negative, but I am just trying to be realistic! :)
