Hey guys I was lucky enough to be accepted to UCLA and UVa and Umass CHC as a safety. I plan on majoring in chemistry on the premed track. I’d be paying in-state tuition at Umass, so I’m wondering if UCLA or UVa is actually that much better for getting into medical school. Finances are not a problem because my parents can pay full price for any of these schools. I’m not really sure what to do.
You can get into med school with a degree from any of these universities. What will matter more than which one you attend is what you do there – your GPA, test scores, and activities in preparation of med school (related research, volunteering, internships…).
UMass, while definitely academically solid, isn’t anywhere near the other two schools. If your parents can pay for any one of the three schools, then I think it’s between UVA and UCLA.

UCLA produces more MD than any school in US. However, pre-med classes are ultra competitive in there!

That’s not because UCLA does anything special. They also have more premed applicants that get accepted to ZERO med schools. They also likely have MORE premeds that get weeded out.
None of this means anything to this student, nor should it.
Any of those schools are fine…but an OOS premed shouldn’t go to a UC.
Another question to ask: If parents can pay for any school, will they ALSO pay $75k per year for med school when that time comes??
