First time college applicant. My son submitted early application on 10/28/2018 and we have been waiting patiently, checking online and the mail for a decision. His coalition account showed app as received all good. As yesterday 2/1 was the notify by date for EA he logged in and still no notification of decision. For whatever reason he clicked on checklist and it showed that his SAT scores were never received!!! We went to SAT site and it shows nothing was ever sent. So now not only his EA app might be done, but the regular application date of 1/20/19 has passed.
Is he screwed on any chance of being accepted for FA19?
Advice on how to fix this please. Is there any option for UMD exceptions??
We are devastated. Great SAT scores, all honors and A/P courses in HS and is dual enrollment for his senior year.
I am absolutely sick to my stomach
The people to ask are in the admissions office. I suggest you involve the guidance counselor, who can probably frame it as an honest mistake given what the coalition app said. FFR, College Board always notifies when they receive your payment. So check your emails to see if they ever confirmed. If they did, you have more evidence to support. Your son should have checked his portal long ago to ensure his app was complete, but that’s water under the bridge now.
Thank you. We listed the college when we registered for the SAT so we thought it would send automatically as one of the 4 freebies. Lesson learned for the next kid. Hoping this can be resolved and yes I planned to be making phone calls at 8 am Monday. Frustrating that we can’t do anything until Monday morning - not a happy household this weekend.
Unfortunately UMD does not take appeals on admissions decisions. For any reason. There is still hope for him during the regular decision round, however. Confirm receipt of all materials and hope for the best!
The SAT score should be sent automatically to the schools you requested in the SAT registration. What about other three schools? Did they receive your son’s SAT score? I think you also need to contact College Board to check about this. Another possibility is the score was sent to UMD, but your son’s information in the score report does not match the information in your son’s application. Therefore, the score cannot be input in his application package.
So important to check portals to see that everything has been received. An email stating the app was received, unfortunately, is not the same as a complete app. I would have your son call the school immediately to see if he still can be considered for regular decision.
On the Application Deadline website, it states “Applications received after the regular deadline will be considered on a rolling, space-available basis.” So there is still hope, especially if he has really good stats. However, he may not be eligible for merit scholarships or honors college. Definitely call them on Monday. and ask about it. Tell them what happened and they will tell you what you need to do, probably “Rush Report” the SAT scores
