UMD Honors Programs - what's the difference

My son was invited into the College Park Scholars program. He isn't sure he wants to do it. Can anyone tell me what it does for you and how the other honors programs at UMDCP compare? Is there a difference in the level of each one? For example is the Honors program considered higher than the Scholars program? Just trying to understand what exactly he is being offered.

He is an engineering major and is concerned that the work load engineering requires combined with that required by the scholars program would be too much. Can anyone shed light on this?

Also, he isn't sure he wants to live in the scholars dorm. From reading other threads, it doesn't seem like these dorms are any nicer than other dorms (still no AC). Can anyone comment as to whether he will feel isolated by staying in the scholars dorm?

Any information would be appreciated that would give some insight into the program and its advantages.

Basically it goes freshman connection (those who got in in the spring semester but can’t have on campus housing) regular students, scholars, then honors. So yes, Honors is considered higher than scholars, but i don’t think you can move up.
