I am in love with both! I visited both!
I am interested in Sports Medicine once graduated.
Love sports.
I am originally from the South
Money is somewhat of a factor, but I don't qualify for FA
Please Help!!!

Anybody???

Which state are you from? Georgia?

If you’re interested in sports medicine, do you anticipate attending medical school after college? Medical school can be expensive. I would suggest trying not to go into debt for undergrad if money is an issue (and all other variables are equal).

However, I think Maryland is ranked more highly than the University of Georgia in many areas. Not sure about the exercise science or kinesthesiology program at both schools.

I am from NC so I will be OOS either way. I anticipate either Med School or PA school with Sports Med concentration. I am really torn!
thanks for replying!

My two NC daughters couldn’t be happier with their choice to go to UMD, fwiw…

Hi, you have two excellent choices here. I spent most of my childhood in Montgomery County, MD, applied to UMD and UGA (among many other schools) for my undergraduate education, was accepted at both institutions and chose to attend UGA. As for rankings, UMD and UGA have considerable strenghts, although not necessarily in the same fields. As for overall national rankings, UGA and UMD share the spot as the 18th best public institution. I can’t speak specifically about the kinesiology program at UMD, but exercise science/kinesiology is quite strong at UGA. I believe that the faculty in that department at UGA was ranked in the top 5 with regards to productivity.

Did either school admit you into their honors program? UGA has a stellar program, and this was a large reason why I chose UGA over UMD. Even if you were not directly admitted to the honors program at UGA, there are still several opportunities to join via collegiate admission. That’s something for you to consider.
Did you prefer the atmosphere of one over the other? UMD has the advantages of proximity to a large city, while at UGA one can enjoy the college town atmosphere that UMD/College Park lacks. At both schools, you have access to world-class facilities, competitive Division I sports, tremendous research opportunities (assuming you take the initiative), etc. You can message me if you have questions about either school. I feel that I know them well.

Thank you for your post Katdawg! I truly feel great in both schools, and I can see myself attending either one. So I decided to visit again during the next 2 weeks, and check it a little more, this time as an admitted student. I am positive I’ll be feeling bad in declining one or the other, but I will certainly let you know. Thank you again for your input, it’s really informative! ttyl!

What did you end up choosing?

Looks like Colormaker attends UMD.

LOL, not quite sure how the post came back to life, but I feel I made the right choice, I love UMD! I could have loved UGA I guess, but I am really happy here, found a great niche. Thanks for asking!
