@WaterConCowboy, if that was directed toward me, please read post #234. I found your response quite rude.
Yeah, it was and I stand by it. There’s a lot of parents on this thread/site stressing about this app for their kids. I hope you don’t try to coddle them Freshman year.
Shoutout to maryland for causing me more stress than ten consecutive AP exams
Maybe because its the parents who have to deal with paying or didn’t you give that any thought
@kgsenior2015
Pffft… Try fighting a supertrojan that’s slowly taking over your computer, now THAT’S stressful!
@waterconcowboy i so agree with you…my parents don’t even know all the schools I applied to hahaha.
The fact that some people have the housing option and some people don’t seems indicative of the decision which they’ll release. There were some cases in the past of people not getting the housing “glitch” but then being admitted to the university, but are there any instances in the past of an applicant getting the housing glitch and then being denied from UMD?
@peppylouie, if you look in some of the old threads, you can see a few people who were initially excited about having the housing link, and then never posted in the UMD thread again. Not many people come and post rejections, so you never know, but I’d assume at least a few people who got the housing link were later rejected. It really means nothing.
OT but I don’t really see the problem with a parent checking their children’s application portal. I know my mom goes out and checks the mail for me every day while I’m at school since I started applying, to see if I have any more “college news”. She’s on a first name basis with our mailwoman now, haha. Parents get excited, let them do what they can.
I personally wouldn’t give my mom my log in info, just because she’s not all that tech savvy, but I can’t keep her from the mailbox. It’s good to have that support; parents get nervous about decisions, too. And it’s safe to say that, outside of the chances megathread, most users on here are parents.
One thing I give a little side eye to is parents who call the office of admissions for their children. Why would that ever be considered a good idea, especially at a school that doesn’t interview? You really want the adcom’s only impression of you (outside of your application, obvi) to be your parent calling for you?
Obviously if it’s some kind of complicated financial aid situation blah blah blah extenuating circumstances then, yes, maybe the parent should call, but small issues like a missing transcript or an application glitch - the child should be calling, sending the transcripts and the test scores was really their responsibility anyway.
Any shot for today?
I’ve been reading this thread and only just joined the site, but this has been such an emotional roller coaster! I’m just so excited to receive my decision, and it would be nice if they announced it early. I hope all of you get in.
HI everyone! I am from Maryland and know a LOT about UMD and its admissions. I applied this year as well but I’ve visited frequently and spoken to many admission counselors. What is supposed to happen is that we are all supposed to hear back BY the 31st of january. That being said, it is possible that the decision is available a day or two before. However, you will know because you will receive an email that says to check your student portal because it has been updated. Once you get that email saying your portal has been updated, that means that your decision is up! A letter for records will come later on but there’s no point of logging on to your accounts to check or calling the admissions office. Just keep checking your email. Honestly, between the days of January 27 and on is the best time that we’d hear back. Before Jan 27 is deff too early for them to release.
Trust me, being in maryland, the maryland decision date is the only thing every high school student in the state is talking about! the anxiety is killing me as well, but just stay logged on to your emails!! good luck to you all
Could the housing application be for the people that are getting in for Fall and the people that don’t have it, maybe Freshman Connection or denied?
Hey guys,
So on my portal I now have a tab that says Housing and Dining Agreement (for admitted students only) and I have the option to start that application! I’m pretty sure this means I got in! Who else has seen something similar?
@njkid2197 Alot of people have posted saying that they have the tab, but there are also people that have posted saying they do not have it. I clicked on the housing tab and it has your first, middle and last name already filled out and the bubble for which term you are should be filled in for fall 2015. Apparently this has happened every year. I don’t know how much you should read into it, but if you have it, the worst it can mean is nothing.
My two older children applied to UMD. Both had this housing link before they were accepted. His friends didn’t have it but ended up getting in freshman connection with no housing. Could be a coincidence tho.
I’m not takin this BS… As far as I am concerned, if you have the housing link, you’ve been accepted… I can’t see any plausible reason why they would make that available to students who they would reject. Cmon now
@njkid2197 Hey hey, no one is calling you out. Just saying that yes it could be a sign but don’t get your hopes up until the actual decision is made. It could mean nothing. That’s all. We DON’T KNOW. Good luck.
I have the housing link but really don’t think I got in… I think it’s a glitch
@njkid2197 jonesin’ hard for that acceptance letter huh? Lol
Lolol… All I’m saying is one of my good friends has the same housing link and one doesn’t. We all go to the same high school. Coincedence? I think not
