UMD Transfer Fall 2015

I emailed them and it turned out that my transcript didn’t make it there until after the priority deadline. Oh well, I still have confidence. I just hope that if I do get in, I’ll be able to get some decent classes

@malva27x I think that’s what happened to me. Here’s the weird thing about it though. Two people I know have submitted their application and documents weeks before March 1 and still haven’t heard back from them. Also, someone who submitted his app on March 1 and sent his transcript from the same school a few days after me (got there after March 1 probably) got in on April 14. It’s really frustrating

@shamim Weird. The same thing happened to me. I’m in MTAP and enrolled at MC. I haven’t gotten an email yet or any update on my application portal. A few days ago, I called the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. They told me that I made the deadline, but my application was still under review. My transcript was submitted two weeks prior to the deadline, so I’m certain that it reached UMD on time. I emailed the person in charge of transfer admissions, but I haven’t heard back from her yet

It’s interesting that none of the MTAP students posting here have gotten their decisions back yet. Admittedly, this is based on a small sample of students, but it’s a strange coincidence. The open house for admitted students is on Monday, so I guess that’s the last day to find out.

You’re now able to create your ID and sign up for orientation. I just signed up.

me too! Have any of you gotten your acceptance letters in the mail?? because I haven’t yet.

@acurrey416 Yes, I got it this morning.

Have you been able to login to your terpmail? Mine won’t let me even though i activated it

@acurrey416 did you set the password? I logged in with my university id @terpmail.umd.edu, worked fine. http://www.goingterpmail.umd.edu/user_actions.html

I’m disappointed the earlier transfer student orientations have filled up. I have to wait until mid June for mine, and the courses I am looking at are already half full or less. I’m getting nervous I won’t get into the classes I really need this first semester.

@KonstantinLevin When did you try to register for orientation? I registered for mine around noon and they were all still open.

They open additional sections for popular/required freshman classes throughout the summer.

@acurrey416 I registered around then and the earliest one listed for me was mid June. Might have to do with me being in arts and humanities, the May one must have filled up already somehow.

@lenmonster I am done with the freshmen requirements, I am entering with my AA and I am looking for the 300 level courses in my majors. They tend to only have a section each in my majors.

@lenmonster question for you since you have experience with this: What do we do now? I have created my ID and gotten access to my email account and registered for orientation and I have checked my preliminary credit evaluation, should I contact transfer credits about courses I wish to have evaluated further? also do you have any idea when we will know about financial aid and housing? Sorry to bombard you haha

For those of us who have not heard any decisions yet-I emailed admissions and they confirmed that I met the priority deadline. However, they said that sometimes applications get missed and that mine is currently under review. They were not able to tell me when to expect a decision.

For anyone interested in stats, I applied to an LEP with all gateways met at the time of application, 60+ transferable credits and a 4.0 GPA. I am also an MTAP student. Basically I’ve tried to do everything possible to ensure a problem-free transfer so it is incredibly frustrating to hear that my application fell through the cracks and I may potentially miss the chance to get into certain classes.

Is there anyone who did get an acceptance letter already AND is an MTAP student?

@acurrey416 So the thing with housing is you won’t know until July or so whether you will get a room assignment, and by then, a lot of off campus housing may be gone. We didn’t want to take the chance of getting nothing, and my kid ended up getting a place in the View with some great roommates who were all rising sophs this past year and he is in one of the better suites (high floor, View 1 facing campus). My daughter is doing the same. Transfer students MAY get housing and they are officially eligible, but the chance of getting a good assignment is pretty low. As far as transcripts go, now, what happens is you’ll send your final transcripts in and they’ll evaluate them. I’m trying to remember the process, but unless you need something as a pre-req, often the official transcript evaluation takes place later after you mail your final transcript. So you’ll get an initial evaluation based on the transcript you sent for admission, but you likely have a whole semester’s worth still to be evaluated. Just do your Artsys search and see what WOULD transfer and plan accordingly. I’d probably search course by course, because I think the transcript tool doesn’t work flawlessly. Go here:

As far as financial aid, we didn’t use/have any, so I can’t help you there.

@KonstantinLevin No matter what, this is the bane of the transfer student, at least for the first semester. All existing students have had the chance to register already. Last week my son was able to register (he’s officially a junior in terms of credits) and this week, current sophomores are registering. By the time you even get to the first transfer orientation (which is May 1), the current freshmen will have registered. This only happens your first semester, so all I can tell you is find ANYTHING that will fill some gen ed requirements, like I-Series or diversity credits, and get yourself on the waiting lists of the 300 courses you want to take. Next semester (spring of next year) you’ll have a much better registration time with your currently awarded credits.

@lenmonster were your kids still able to get meal plans even though they were staying in the view?

We used the TerpBucks. The View is super close to so much food on Route 1 and even a lot of those restaurants are close to classes. My son does eat at Stamp sometimes, and every now and then one of the Diners if he’s eating with friends on campus. So the TerpBucks is the most flexible thing instead of doing a standard meal plan. You CAN get a meal plan, but with a kitchen in the View and lots of food alternatives around, you may find you won’t use it very much.
