Umd, udel, Rutgers or penn state?

Is University of Maryland at College Park, University of Delaware, Penn State University at University Park or Rutgers University at New Brunswick better if I am majoring in biology/pre-med and plan to apply for med school? I was offered money from both Rutgers and Delaware, as well as invited to the Honors College at Rutgers… Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

What are you instate for? Any of these colleges will do the trick. Since you were given a scholarship and Honors at Rutgers, that might be your best option! If you’re instate for any of these, though, go with that one.

I’m in state for Rutgers so in the end it would be $20,000 a year

Instate tuition and honors college makes Rutgers the best choice on paper. Is there any reason you can think of thats keeping you from enrolling? Too close to home? Too many kids from school going? Anything?

I would say lean towards Rutgers. It’s a great school with a well-paved path to med school. What’s holding you back?

My sister went there so I’ve already had some experiences and the town of New Brunswick just isn’t the college town I’ve always dreamt of like umd or udel… It doesn’t really have a nice campus and it’s so familiar that I feel like I want my college experience to be all fresh and new to me

I know what you mean about New Brunswick LOL. I’m from New Jersey too.

Then go with whatever school is the most affordable besides Rutgers. UDel, PSU, and UMD are all good schools with great campuses.

No, they’re all comparable schools. They’re all flagships. go to the least expensive school.

What’s your parents’ budget?
How much does each cost, if you calculate (tuition, fees, room, board) - (tuition, fees).
Honors College at Rutgers would be hard to pass up for a future premed though.

I’m definitely not good money wise so Rutgers does seem to be the smartest choice it’s just hard to think about “what if I went to umd or udel or penn stTate”

Well, if you can’t afford the others, then Rutgers it is.

If you were financialy strapped, why did you apply to universities that don’t offer scholarships to OOS applicants?

You can still apply to a few colleges that are out of state - I think Juniata (good for premed), Elizabethtown, Hendrix (good for premed) still accept applications.

Forget about Udel, UMD, or Penn State. If you couldn’t afford them, they never really were in play…

That’s like having a budget for a Toyota with a rebate in one state, but thinking…“what if I bought the Toyota without the rebate in another state?”.

You’re still getting the SAME car, but crazily paying more (which you can’t afford anyway!). There will be NO DIFFERENCE. These are state flagships. Same schools in different states.

You don’t have a choice since the money isn’t there!

There is NOTHING special going on at any of those other schools.
