Hey guys so I would like to see some opinions on my dilemma here. At the beginning of this year I transferred from a community college in New Jersey down to the University of Maryland - College Park with the intention to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. Now after nearly completing a full year down here I find myself contemplating whether or not I should go through the whole process again. My debate is that I don’t know if I should continue here at UMD or transfer to NJIT. NJIT is not my first pic of colleges in New Jersey but being this late in the game they are the only ones with openings in their engineering program. My problem is that I really like the campus and the school itself here at UMD but I do miss being around my friends and family in New Jersey a great deal. Another large factor is that I am not having quite the time of my life here at UMD so it is getting harder to justify the double tuition fees as compared to NJIT. Both schools have well respected engineering programs but I do believe that the classes at NJIT are slightly easier than UMD. I would just like to hear some other peoples opinions and maybe some pros and cons to either school that might help me make my decision. Thank you in advanced!
I am a firm believer in not taking on a lot of tuition debt. If you are borrowing to attend UMD and it costs twice as much as NJIT, I would transfer.
UMD is considered a better school but an engineer from NJIT is not sitting around waiting for jobs either. Accumulating debt is not necessary to attend one vs the other.
