UMich aid

I recently got accepted to UM. I'm out of state so cost per year will be nearly 50k by my 5th year. My parents make roughly $110,000. Were not rich, not poor. How much do you think UM will give me? Am i too high in the middle class to really have much of a chance?

In general, Michigan is not particularly good with FA for OOS students. I'd say 50k in five years might be conservative. Have you noticed that tuition goes up over 1k/sem once you hit jr standing (which could come as early as fr year depending on how many APs and college credits you have). The state of Michigan is in worse financial shape than most states, which doesn't bode well for FA in general. They do have some good merit scholarships for top OOS students.

I wish i had an idea what the standard would be to be considered at top OOS student.

Look at the various college websites, for instance LS&A:

College of Literature, Science, and the Arts : Students

A couple of years ago they said the LS&A Deans scholarship (5-20k/yr) was given to 90 of the top 1,500 with stats of about 1400 (M&V SAT) & 3.8 gpa. The Shipman scholarship is even more competitive as for OOS students it is for tuition R&B.

Congrats. Michigan goes on record that it can't meet full need of out of state students. However, there are a few things you can do quickly now that you're accepted to help get the best deal possible. Have you filed the CSS (at collegeboard, using UM's code) and FAFSA financial forms? If not, do so right away, estimating earning and taxes from last year, and then update when you have your parent's actual tax returns.

Much of Michigan's aid is "need informed". In other words, it depends on your family's "expected family contribution" (EFC). Once you know your EFC, it will help you determine what's possible. The reason it's important to file early is that so doing increases your chance of receiving aid if you are eligible.
Best wishes and cheers,

My parents and I already filled out FASFA and CSS. Is there any of those types of scholarships that are for engineering that they may only consider math scores in since that was the only score they looked at during the admissions process?
I have about a 3.9 UW GPA currently.
SAT I scored 730M, 590R, 540W
SATII scored 710 Physics, 710 Math II, 680 Math I (First, and only sitting)
Im expecting a 730M to not be top tier, especially when its engineering.
